Bills released DE Mark Anderson.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise. Anderson signed a four-year, $19.5 million contract that included $8 million guaranteed last offseason. The Bills are taking on an additional $500,000 cap charge by releasing him this year. After posting just one sack in five games of action last season, Anderson was expected to get another shot under the new regime. Instead, the Bills are wiping their hands clean. Jerry Hughes might be the new favorite to anchor one edge of the defense opposite Mario Williams. Anderson joins John Abraham on the free-agent pass rush market.
Why not?

He's 30 and has two years of double digit sacks on his resume, including 10 in New England in 2011. He also played in this scheme in Chicago for a while, including a year under Marinelli in 2009. He's also coming off a recent payday so why the hell not?

He could probably give us like 4-5 sacks or so this year.

He did have a knee issue last year. We need to check that out.

Buccaneers sign Peyton Hillis

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 23, 2013, 5:52 PM EDT

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed running back Peyton Hillis.

Hillis, who played for the Chiefs last year, signed shortly after working out for the Bucs.

Tampa Bay will be the fourth stop in the 27-year-old Hillis’s career, having previously played for the Broncos, Browns and Chiefs. Hillis had one outstanding season, in 2010 in Cleveland, when he carried 270 times for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns and added 61 catches for 477 yards and two touchdowns. But in his other four seasons he’s been a mediocre player.

In Tampa Bay, Hillis will have a chance to earn the No. 2 running back job behind starter Doug Martin. Hillis will be competing in camp with veteran Brian Leonard, rookie Mike James and all-name team candidate Michael Smith.

Cards preparing to sign Eric Winston, because Bobby Massie had 27 blown blocks last season.

Whats really wild is that nobody has wanted to sign until this point, he has been vastly overrated around here.
Overrated only because of the trash we have at right tackle.

Can confirm an ESPN report. Matt Ryan had indeed agreed to a 5yr extension with the Falcons

Albert Breer ‏@AlbertBreer 2h
Matt Ryan has $10M left on his rookie deal. So this is a five-year, $103.75M extension, and has $113.75M over its six-year life, thru 2018.

Lions waive guard Bill Nagy

Posted by Mike Wilkening on July 25, 2013, 4:47 PM EDT

The Lions have waived offensive guard Bill Nagy, Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com reported Thursday.

Nagy, 25, was a seventh-round pick of the Cowboys in 2011. He started four games at guard for Dallas a rookie before suffering a broken left ankle. He then missed all of the 2012 season after a high-ankle sprain and surgery on the same leg. The Lions claimed him on waivers last August from Dallas.

With Nagy departing, the Lions now have an open spot on their 90-player roster.

Raiders signed C Andre Gurode, formerly of the Bears.

The scrapheap team of the NFL, Oakland continues to build its "roster" with players written off by every other club. Gurode is 34 and hasn't appeared in a game since the 2011 season. Ideally, he won't play a down in 2013.

Geoff Hangartner Cut – the Panthers' projected starter at right guard – was based on progress displayed by younger players on the roster
Hangartner – a fifth-round draft pick by the Panthers in 2005 from Texas A&M – played six seasons with the team (2005-08 and 2011-12). He started 55 games in Carolina, spending time at both guard and center during his tenure.

Hangartner started at right guard last year, then switched to center following Ryan Kalil
