Christmas Movies have to be largely centered around Christmas related nostalgia, good feelings, family bonding, etc, in addition to featuring Christmas-time (and location - have to have snow) themes.

What Culkin said is true. Die Hard is an action movie (one of the BEST action movies, at that), which happens to be set at Christmas.

It's a fun meme that "it's not Christmas till Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Plaza" but it's just not a Christmas movie.
