hardly a shoestring catch

Come on now.

I know you remember the play and the still shot is misleading.

Again, he should have caught it, but it was a bang bang play, and it wasn't some pass that was floated into the air that he could have caught with ease as that still image suggests.

Going for it in a situation like that has become the norm across the league. Can't really fault Schott on that, although I do agree that going for it on 4th has gone overboard. I get to watch the Lions every week and Dan Campbell is particularly a bad offender when it comes to that despite being otherwise a very good coach.

Schott has exceeded my expectations as a head coach. He is at least a lateral move from McCarthy. Much better than Kellen Moore would have been IMO and far better than Garrett.
It's because the NFL has become a game of TDs. It's just assumed with the rules the way they are that it's not that hard to get in field goal range. Especially now that 50+ yard kicks are almost easy for most kickers and teams are starting at the 30-35 yard line regularly. The NFL has just changed so much that punting and playing defense has really started to take a backseat. Or kicking off and hoping to pin a team back.

Yeah Dak really short armed it. Now the TD drop last night, maybe ball placement could have been slightly better but that's a catch you expect every receiver in the NFL to make every single time. Hell, you expect your RB, FB, TE and occasionally pass eligible OT to make every single time.

Yes, I remember the play and Dak hardly drilled it. Stop trying to turn this into Staubach-Jackie Smith.

Hate it.

Change the rules.

Better yet, can we just invent a time machine and go back to 1992?

The new kick off is neat and all but I miss the days when a great kickoff could pin a team inside the 20. Or it felt like a great return to get the ball out to the 35. Now I just come to expect that both teams will start around the 30-35 yard line and if you don't get out that far you fucked something up.

We're 5-5-1.

Let's tap the breaks a little.
He is a head coach. I can't excuse the worst defense in the NFL just because he is an "offensive minded" guy. You're the head coach. You're responsible for both sides of the ball. And so I agree with you. I'm not ready to starting praising his job for getting this team to .500.

BTW, if anyone is wondering who to root for tonight, it is unfortunately the Niners.
Are you talking about playoff ramifications for us? (homer)

If so, wouldn't it be better if the Niners lost? They are in the WC chase with us 1.5 games ahead, with little chance of winning their division. Being 1 game behind the Seahawks, and 2 games behind the Rams.

The Panthers, while only .5 games ahead of us are tied for their division lead right now. Holding a tiebreaker on us. If they are WC, that tiebreaker would come in to play. But if they win their division, it wouldn't.

At least that's the way I understand it. But could be wrong.

There are no tiebreakers with us because of the tie, aside from Green Bay.

I was talking about them beating us head to head for the tiebreaker. But yeah, I guess we couldn't end up with identical records. Unless they of course end up with a tie, too. Had a brain cramp.

But all that aside, I don't think the Panthers will still be there in the playoff hunt at the end of the year. They finish the year with the niners, saints, bucs x2, seahawks and rams. But the niners will. I'll still be rooting for them to lose tonight. fuck the niners.

Not totally sure about that, I think it's better for the Niners to lose, Carolina still has a bunch of losses left on their schedule but the Niners slate is kind of light.
Perhaps you are right since you look at it that way.

Another team that needs to start losing hard soon is Seattle.

I think Seattle is a lock as one wild card, so basically we need losses from SF and then some of the NFC North teams.

I don't think the South will get a wild card, which is why I'm not worried about the Panthers winning.
