But don't you guys think that if this works out -- big if, granted -- Guyton has a bigger upside? I mean considering the position is more valuable. I've been a move-Tyler Smith-to-LT guy, but I do think his ceiling (and floor) at G is higher.

Now I admit that Guyton has a much lower floor than Barton, though. Just saying that if he can convert that talent to production, this could work out the best.
Your homerism is revolting.

I think I might like to see them trade down with one of the 3rds and pick up another pick.

Awesome first round. High third and filling a huge hole? I'd sign up for that all day long.
If JPJ miraculously falls to us in the 2nd round, medical history or not, we should run to the podium and snag him.

I thought the same thing last night. I think it will depend on who is still on the board, and how trading down would impact that selection. One thing to consider, trading back in the 3rd won't likely net us a 4th round pick unless we "sell" one of those picks outright, and I don't think I'd want to do that.

Weirdest pick of the first round by far.
To use a poker term, it put the Vikings on tilt. They absolutely shit the bed when Atlanta did that. It's why they jumped up that one spot. They were probably terrified that Vegas was looking to trade up.

Only for Vegas to make a head scratching selection as well, considering that they drafted Michael Mayer last year.

Good old drunk Jerry can't help himself. But seriously, sounds like the damn speech you give after taking the player. If anyone else really likes Brooks they surely know now they have to jump the Cowboys.

On a positive note, it increases the odds someone jumps us if they do love Brooks. But that was probably obvious before Jerry confessed his love.

Yes Guyton has more upside, although Barton still has a bunch with a much higher floor, which is why I preferred him.

I forgot they took a TE high last year too. Maybe they can figure out a 2 TE attack like this team never has.

You have no QB and need talent badly. So you go TE. Makes one wonder how some of these guys keep their jobs. Are they that down in Mayer? Or do they really believe the key to winning is loading up on one of the least important positions in the NFL?

I mean Barton has a really high ceiling for a center. It's just that an elite LT is worth more than an elite center. They both have respective elite potential at their positions.

I'm not a corner-hater, but damn it's nice to not need one of those. Or even a safety.

And I personally don't think they'll look very hard at WR.

Pretty sweet to look mostly at OL and front seven (plus one RB).

No clue. I was asking myself that same question last night. TE is a luxury pick, for all intents and purposes, and Vegas is basically void of talent. Given the lack of 1st round QBs left because they sat with their thumbs up their asses, the smarter thing to do is try and trade down and get more picks, not select another TE without a QB to throw him the ball.

I think Bowers is special enough that you can't let last year's pick affect this one, though.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a better college TE.

NFL Rounds 2 and 3 mock draft, by Dane Brugler: Spencer Rattler to Rams; early WR run
NFL Rounds 2 and 3 mock draft, by Dane Brugler: Spencer Rattler to Rams; early WR run

The NFL welcomed 32 new players during Thursday night’s first round, but there is still plenty of talent available in the 2024 draft.
A projection of how the second and third rounds might play out:

Round 2
33. Buffalo Bills (from CAR): Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas
34. New England Patriots: Ladd McConkey, WR, Georgia
35. Arizona Cardinals: Cooper DeJean, CB, Iowa

Between DeJean’s versatility and the Cardinals’ needs in the secondary, this is a team-player pairing that made a ton of sense in the first round — and makes even more sense in Round 2.
36. Washington Commanders: Patrick Paul, OT, Houston
37. Los Angeles Chargers: Junior Colson, LB, Michigan
38. Tennessee Titans: Johnny Newton, DT, Illinois
39. Carolina Panthers (from NYG): Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama
40. Washington Commanders (from CHI): Marshawn Kneeland, Edge, Western Michigan
41. Green Bay Packers (from NYJ): Edgerrin Cooper, LB, Texas A&M

42. Houston Texans (from MIN): Mike Sainristil, CB, Michigan
43. Atlanta Falcons: Chris Braswell, Edge, Alabama

After opting for a quarterback in the top 10, the Falcons will still be searching for pass-rush help on Day 2. Braswell led Alabama in pressures last season, just ahead of Dallas Turner.
44. Las Vegas Raiders: Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB, Missouri
45. New Orleans Saints (from DEN): Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State
46. Indianapolis Colts: Max Melton, CB, Rutgers
47. New York Giants (from SEA): T.J. Tampa, CB, Iowa State
48. Jacksonville Jaguars: Andru Phillips, CB, Kentucky

49. Cincinnati Bengals: Kris Jenkins, DT, Michigan
With Byron Murphy II off the board, the Bengals’ first-round decision was made for them. Jenkins could be the consolation prize, as Cincinnati builds up its interior defensive-line depth.
50. Philadelphia Eagles (from NO): Troy Franklin, WR, Oregon
51. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jackson Powers-Johnson, G/C, Oregon
52. Los Angeles Rams: Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan
53. Philadelphia Eagles: Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU
54. Cleveland Browns: Maason Smith, DT, LSU

Teams are looking for players who are at least 6-foot-5 and 300-plus pounds on the defensive line, but those types are in short supply in this draft class. Smith is still a work in progress, but he has the traits and trajectory Cleveland covets.

55. Miami Dolphins: Zach Frazier, G/C, West Virginia
56. Dallas Cowboys: Jonathon Brooks, RB, Texas
57. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Adisa Isaac, Edge, Penn State

58. Green Bay Packers: Jaden Hicks, S, Washington State
59. Houston Texans: Mike Hall Jr., DT, Ohio State
60. Buffalo Bills: Javon Bullard, S, Georgia
61. Detroit Lions: Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State

The Lions added a hard-nosed competitor in the first round (Terrion Arnold) and could grab a player with an even fiercer demeanor for their defensive line in Round 2.
62. Baltimore Ravens: Christian Haynes, G, UConn
63. San Francisco 49ers: Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia
64. Kansas City Chiefs: Blake Fisher, OT, Notre Dame

Round 3
(*designates a compensatory selection)
65. Carolina Panthers: DJ James, CB, Auburn
66. Arizona Cardinals: Cooper Beebe, G/C, Kansas State
67. Washington Commanders: Nehemiah Pritchett, CB, Auburn
68. New England Patriots: Roger Rosengarten, OT, Washington
69. Los Angeles Chargers: Blake Corum, RB, Michigan

Given the Chargers’ need for another running back and Jim Harbaugh’s affinity for Corum, this match feels almost too obvious.
70. New York Giants: Trey Benson, RB, Florida State
71. Arizona Cardinals (from TEN): Brandon Dorlus, DT, Oregon
72. New York Jets: Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky
73. Dallas Cowboys (from MIN via DET): Trevin Wallace, LB, Kentucky

With the additional third-rounder the Cowboys picked up by trading back in Round 1, they should be able to find linebacker depth. Here, they get the athletic Wallace.
74. Atlanta Falcons: Ruke Orhorhoro, DT, Clemson
75. Chicago Bears: Austin Booker, Edge, Kansas
76. Denver Broncos: Theo Johnson, TE, Penn State

77. Las Vegas Raiders: Brandon Coleman, OT/G, TCU
78. Washington Commanders (from SEA): Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE, Texas
79. Atlanta Falcons (from JAX): Kris Abrams-Draine, CB, Missouri
80. Cincinnati Bengals: Ben Sinnott, TE, Kansas State
81. Seattle Seahawks (from NO via DEN): Tyler Nubin, S, Minnesota
82. Indianapolis Colts: Ja’Lynn Polk, WR, Washington

After opting for a pass rusher (Laiatu Latu) in Round 1 and a corner (Melton) in Round 2 here, the Colts could turn their attention to the offensive side of the ball. Polk would give Anthony Richardson a dependable outside pass catcher.
83. Los Angeles Rams: Cole Bishop, S, Utah
84. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jermaine Burton, WR, Alabama
85. Cleveland Browns: MarShawn Lloyd, RB, USC
86. Houston Texans (from PHI): Kiran Amegadjie, OT, Yale

87. Dallas Cowboys: Dominick Puni, G/C, Kansas
88. Green Bay Packers: Jalyx Hunt, Edge, Houston Christian

89. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Cedric Gray, LB, North Carolina
90. Arizona Cardinals (from HOU): Payton Wilson, LB, NC State
91. Green Bay Packers (from BUF): DeWayne Carter, DT, Duke
92. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from DET): Elijah Jones, CB, Boston College
93. Baltimore Ravens: Christian Jones, OT, Texas

The Ravens saw most of their offensive line options disappear in the first round, so they could load up in the trenches on Day 2. Jones would add tackle depth to the high-motor guard (Haynes) acquired in the second round.
94. San Francisco 49ers: Jonah Elliss, Edge, Utah
95. Buffalo Bills (from KC): Malik Washington, WR, Virginia
96. Jacksonville Jaguars*: Mekhi Wingo, DT, LSU
97. Cincinnati Bengals*: Bralen Trice, Edge, Washington
98. Pittsburgh Steelers (from PHI*): Jarvis Brownlee Jr., CB, Louisville
99. Los Angeles Rams*: Spencer Rattler, QB, South Carolina
100. Washington Commanders (from SF*): Isaiah Adams, G, Illinois

__

Brooks and Wallace is pretty spot on guesses in my opinion. I very much doubt we go Puni with the other pick. But one of the three tonight will be a wild card. Like I said, they get weird when they suddenly have an extra pick. My guess is it goes to D-line or Corely. Once they hit the Oline, RB and LBer (The three positions we have obviously been looking at the most) it's a bit of an unknown.

The good news is Quinn isn't going to be sitting there with some fucking pet cat to waste the extra pick on. Looking at you Wright.

Wallace would be a dogshit 3rd rounder.

NFL.com analysis says explosive athlete, but basically bad at diagnosing plays. Who the fuck wants a LB that does'nt know WTF is going on?

I mean in this scenario I'd take Wilson instead and be doing some fist pumps. He may be Sean Lee in good and bad ways, but this defense could use the next Sean Lee in the worst way.

On a side note everyone has their opinions. I know I've heard some who love Wallace. I don't always trust the NFL.com profiles. Wallace is a LBer we have looked at though so you know he is going to be in consideration tonight. Bruglar has him as his third rated LBer. I just think if we are taking LBer tonight and Wilson is available he is a better prospect. He brings everything Wallace does (Elite athleticism) but with way better diagnosing skills. Better length. Better coverage. Better pass rusher. You want another Sean Lee on this defense, you take Wilson.
