Garrett acknowledges rookie Webb's struggles: 'He's played young this year'

When Jason Garrett talks about a young or inexperienced player who is looking good, he frequently says the game “is not too big for them.”

He never used those words Thursday when he was asked about the struggles of rookie cornerback B.W. Webb.

“Sometimes he’s played young this year,” Garrett said. “You can see some of his inexperience, both as an inside guy and an outside guy. He plays a hard position, so you have to come in there and deal with some success that they have against you and keep playing. Sometimes he’s shown his youth and his inexperience.”

The Bears’ Earl Bennett caught a touchdown pass in Webb’s vicinity on Monday night, and Webb was benched against the Saints for passing up on a tackle at the goal line.

This week, Sterling Moore has been playing corner against three-wide receiver sets, with Orlando Scandrick and Brandon Carr, while Webb has been on the scout team.

Garrett stopped short of saying Webb, a fifth-round pick from William & Mary, had been demoted, but acknowledged Webb’s struggles in the adjustment from small college to the NFL.

“I think it’s hard for any rookie to come in and play, particularly at that position,” Garrett said. “We feel good about some of the things he’s done, but he certainly has to continue to get better.”

You mean guys who weren't good enough to play Division 1 ball can't hack it in the NFL?

Who woulda thunk.

I'm surprised Garrett even noticed.

Hard to fathom, isn't it? Or, here's another one for you. You mean player's that were hurt off and on their whole college career are getting hurt in the NFL, too? WHAT?!

The Cowboys have no idea how to evaluate small school or non-div 1 DB's.
