Looks like 5 for 85. Mauer is 31 and has 5 years left at 115. Yanks needed a catcher. Yanks needed a LH power bat. He's in the AL now so he can DH more now and at end of deal.
Could be 6 for 100 but I'm assuming that final year is a team option.

either way, this deal reminds me of that joke you used to tell about the Yankees trying to be frugal and not hand out big deals anymore. I guess another Boston WS title will change that tune real quick.

Great, those .320 10HR 65RBI numbers won't look so hot for a 24 million a year first baseman.
Ya. They went from having the premiere catcher in the game to a worse defensive version of James Loney.

No, the goal is still 189 million (I never said it was frugal). You're forgetting all the money coming off the books.

Cano 15 million (might resign)
Granderson 15 million
Kuroda 15 million (might resign)
Pettitte 12 million
Youkilis 12 million
Mo 10 million
Hughes 7.125 million

And then the big one Arod. Paid 29 million last year and could be 26 million not having to pay this year. That's close to a possible 115 million coming off the books. So they can make a big splash in FA and will still cut payroll. And I never said they wouldn't hand out big deals anymore. Its the New York Yankees were talking about.

The goal for the Yanks is to get to 189 million, but it's not a mandate according to Hal Steinbrenner. Maybe the Red Sox winning it all leads to them saying screw it, but the big thing is Arod. If for whatever reason they have to pay Arod a huge chunk of his 2014 salary (plus he gets 6 million bonus (25+6) when he hits his 660th HR which he is 6 away) then there's no way they stay below 189. If they get out from all of that they have a shot, albeit small from the rumblings of who they are targeting. We'll see what happens the next month or two.

I feel somewhat bad for the Yanks to have to be on the hook for such a large salary, but they did it to themselves by offering it. I see no way that it's fair for them to get salary relief out of this situation.

I love the McCann signing. I cant count how many times in the past couple of years we would have RISP and have our awful hitting catcher come up to the plate only to end the inning. McCann isn't great, but hes solid.

Sounds like Beltran is next. I can take a 2 year deal, but not 3. Somebody else might give him 3 though.

Yanks continuing the youth movement.
I know, but we have a spot or a spot and a half in the OF to fill. I don't care how old a guy is as long as they produce. Nothing worse than paying an old player for the numbers he put up 5-10 years ago and the Yanks do that plenty. I can stomach 2 years for Beltran. We put up with Wells and Ichiro last year and still have them for one more. Hopefully, they just release Wells.

The said thing is the Mets. How can you be a team in New York City and have a payroll that low? It's sad for the fans. I heard they might get up to 90 million next year. They should be top 5-10 in payroll every year, if not higher. Joke.

Odd reaction to a picture of a family.
I wouldn't normally, but there is a huge tit in the middle of the pic that happened to catch my attention.
