Terry Bradshaw, Jimmy Johnson make fun of ‘overpaid and underachieving’ Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson, left, and running back Emmitt Smith celebrate as they leave the field after their 38-21 NFC championship win over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday, Jan. 23, 1994 in Irving, Texas.

Who knew that Fox studio analysts Terry Bradshaw and Jimmy Johnson fancied themselves a pair of vaudeville comedians? But there they sat on the Fox pre-game set doing shtick with the “average” Cowboys players, Garrett and owner Jerry Jones in their crosshairs. Think Abbott and Costello with Johnson in the role of Abbott.

Bradshaw: “I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling kind of average today.”

Johnson: “Like a Dallas Cowboy?”

Bradshaw: “I’ve had 133 wins since 1997.”

Johnson: “But you’ve had 133 losses, but some of them have been moral victories.”

Bradshaw: “I just want to be a yes-man, ok?”

Johnson: “I want to be overpaid and underachieving.”

Bradshaw: “I want to go to work and get booed.”

Johnson: “I want to fire one of my best coaches and let him go win somewhere else.”

Bradshaw: “I really do feel average.”

Johnson and Bradshaw: “Like a Dallas Cowboy!”

Johnson: “Cowboy fans have to expect more than mediocrity. Am I the only one upset that this team is .500? They’ve got to be better than that.”

Who is he referring to?
Sounds like Garrett to me based on rumor mills, etc. They were inferring that Jones was wanting to pull the plug on him hence Jones was the ultimate butt end of the parody along with some of the players.

I think he was referring to himself which is strange since Miami sucked.

The point of the parody was about Cowboy fan expectations so I deduced it was the Cowboys and the Management who were the conversationalist.

I thought Jimmy was referring to himself. But maybe he was talking about Ryan.

Think it was about a franchise that was overhyped and underachieving most of the last 15-20 years. With the money paid out no way other than mismanagement should we be floundering at about .500 over that time.

Sad thing is....they are spot on.

I'm enjoying the win if nothing else because it shut those shit-eating Giants fans up, and most likely ended their season.

But, I do expect a steamer to be laid against the Raiders.

I think we'll beat the Raiders, even if it's a struggle.

They don't have a QB that can really, truly shred us. Nor do they have an Adrian Peterson to pick up the slack like the Vikings had.

Plus it's at home.

...

We should be 7-5, and hopefully pretty healthy, and coming off what is essentially an extra bye week, going into that Sunday night game at Chicago, which will be very winnable.
