Cowboys' rookie B.W. Webb proves them wrong -- yes, you can practice with no sleeves in 37-degree weather
For some reason, B.W. Webb believed he had to prove something in Friday’s 37-degree practice.
“They didn’t think anybody could go out there and not wear sleeves,” he said. “I was like, ‘I can do it.’ ”
So he did it. The rookie cornerback practiced in shorts, a shirt, no sleeves and no gloves – braving the cold like nobody else. Only he and receiver Dez Bryant were in short sleeves and shorts, but Bryant, like everyone else, at least had gloves. The rest of the team had long pants, sleeves and many players had a hoodie or sweatshirt under their jersey and a ski mask.
“Just some people said I couldn’t do it,” Webb said, a sheepish smile on his face. “I had to prove them wrong.”
So, who challenged him?
“Everybody. Everybody did.”
Brandon Carr?
“I didn’t bet him,” Carr said. “I’m not about to give him free money for that.”
The veteran corner smiled.
“He’s young. He’s got a lot of energy,” he said. “Young guy, he don’t get sick as much as us older guys. He’s a courageous guy.”
Carr looked over at Webb and yelled: “B-Dub! How you feeling?”
Webb gave him a thumbs up.
Carr yelled back, “Don’t come in here sick tomorrow!”
So, Webb was asked later, did he just get used to it after a while?
“Oh, it was freezing,” he said. “It was terrible. It was terrible. Last time I do that.”
Couldn’t someone make it worth his while to do it again?
“They could take me out to eat if they want to,” he said. “That would be a good thing.”
