Jerry Jones tells CBS News he hears all the criticism and likes the pain of it

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he listens to talk radio “more than anyone” and that criticism hurts, but deep down, maybe he likes it.

“I think I love the pain,” he said in an interview with CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford broadcast Monday on “CBS This Morning.” “Certainly, criticism hurts, but it, boy – fuels your ambition. It makes me think, ‘I wanna show them.’ ”

Jones said he does hear the criticism for putting out a Cowboys team that has only one playoff victory in 17 seasons, and he chooses not block it out.

“No, no. As a matter of fact, I probably listen to more talk radio than anyone,” Jones said.

The interviewer replied, “Do you really? You hear it?”

Jones said, “I think I love the pain.”

Jones then told a story about how he didn’t mind a little pain in the doctor’s office after a “serious” loss one week.

“I was doing a lot of blood work, and they said, ‘We want to be sure and get this nurse in that really knows how to be gentle and get it done quickly on the first time,’ “ Jones said. “And I said, ‘This morning, I need one that needs to try 10 times. I want some pain.’ ”

The reporter asked, “Literally, this happened?”

Jones said, “That happened. And I need to cry a little bit. And so, that’s not a bad thing.”

Jones was asked if he considers making a change at general manager, the position he has held since buying the Cowboys in 1989.

Jones gave his stock answer.

“My experience has been the closer your top management is to the man that writes the check, or the man that is the financial backbone of the team, the better operation you have,” he said.

:lol

That was my first thought (my second thought was :weaksauce)

133-133 with one playoff win since 1997. That's nineteen-hundred and ninety-seven. That's showin' 'em alright. Showin' 'em that you have failed for nearly two decades now as a GM.

‘I wanna show them.’

This has been the case since Jimmy was here. We've known this for 20 years now. It's why he won't hire a GM or a reputable HC. It's all about Jerry's ego. Like I've said before, he'd rather be in total control and lose than win with someone else getting the credit.

FU Jerry!

The only thing that gives me hope about Stephen when Jerry's gone is I don't think Stephen is anywhere near the egomaniac like Jerry is. He could prove me wrong but with Jerry, it's always been about Jerry. Not sure Stephen will be that bad, but after watching his dad, who knows?

He definitely has a lot of the personnel issues his dad has, but he might not have the masochist streak

We can only hope that's the case. With Jerry, the more he's gotten criticized and the more the team has lost he always responds with how it's "deepened his resolve, etc". Pretty obvious that it's always just made him want to continue doing things his way even more.

Heaven forbid if we won with Jimmy, lost for years with Jerry doing it his way and then he relinquish control and we won again. At least this way no one can definitively say someone else could win here since he will never allow that to happen.
I don't know if I've ever despised a person more. I'm almost afraid to say that because I'm sure he'd enjoy it.

This is why a lot of Cowboys fans openly root for his death. They know the only way the Cowboys will move in another direction is after Jerry's dead and gone.

This does it for me. I see a lot of fans talking about jumping ship and rooting for another team. I could never do that, but as a Cowboys fan I am going to actively root for them to lose every game they play. I want this fucker to have to answer for losses. Since the morons keeps filling the seats, the next hope we have is for them to lose their asses off. Eventually, even the "real fans" will have to stop buying the product, right?

This guy is certifiably out of his mind, the level of delusion that he operates under is indescribable. Thank God he's already in his 70's, only another 10 or so years to go.

That's where I'm at with Stephen, I think he's a complete football moron just like his father but I also think he's pragmatic enough, and not egotistical enough, to just continue down this road forever. I think he starts out operating the way Jerry does but once that proves to not work I think it's possible that he isn't as stubborn as Jerry and makes a change.

Now, if by some modern miracle we win a Super Bowl before Jerry dies that changes everything, but I don't think that's an issue.
