They are going to have to get another CB.

Bring back Sterling Moore. He may not be the most talented guy, but he's got more playmaking ability and guts than any corner we've got.

DeMarcus Ware, Miles Austin work on side
October, 30, 2013

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas – Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Ware is missing his seventh straight practice with a quadriceps strain and was joined by wide receiver Miles Austin, who has been slowed by a hamstring injury.

Austin had been able to go through limited practices the last two weeks but he did not play against the Detroit Lions as the Cowboys look for him to get closer to 100 percent. He played against the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles after a two-game absence but did not record a catch.

Ware has continued to say his leg has improved but he needs to have more strength before he returns to play.

Three other starters were missing from practice as well.

Cornerback Morris Claiborne (hamstring), safety J.J. Wilcox (knee) and right guard Brian Waters (triceps, knee, ribs) were not at practice. Waters is likely done for the season because of the triceps injury but he is holding out hope for a return. According to a source, Claiborne could miss the next two games with a hamstring injury. Wilcox did not play against the Lions after getting hurt in practice last week.

Running back DeMarco Murray (knee) took the first-team work during the portion of practice open to the media and is in shoulder pads. He has been cleared medically to return, but the coaches want to see him look more comfortable in practice before he returns.

Safety Danny McCray (hip, toe) and linebacker DeVonte Holloman were also missing practice. Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher was on the practice field but will be limited as he is not wearing pads as he continues to fight through a stinger.

DeMarcus Ware encouraged by his rehab, but he might miss another week

DeMarcus Ware still is experiencing some pain in his quadriceps and has not returned to practice. But the Cowboys defensive end continues to be encouraged by his rehab.

"The way that everything is going, it’s progressing really well," Ware said Thursday. "I did a lot of the drills today. I’m starting to feel really good, and now I’m trying to get ready for this week. If not this week, try to get ready for next week. This is a day-to-day thing."

Ware played 134 consecutive games before sitting out the past two games with the leg injury. He was not even close enough last Sunday to try to do anything in pregame.

Ware's thigh feels better now, but he concedes he still might need at least another week. The Cowboys play at New Orleans next week before their bye week, which would give Ware an extra week of rest, but he said his goal is to get back before the bye.

"It's night and day [compared to last week]," he said. "Last week, it was probably like 50 percent, and it's totally different now.

"...But you don’t want to get out there and half, half – that word -- it. It’s getting out there and being healthy enough to do everything functional."

Cowboys DT Jason Hatcher says stinger won’t keep him out of New Orleans game

Defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, the anchor of the defensive line so far this season, was forced to leave Sunday’s game with a stinger.

He said he will play against New Orleans.

“I was going to make a play and Ernie Sims came and knocked the crap out of me,’’ Hatcher said of the Cowboys linebacker. “I’ll be OK. The feeling is coming back.

“You just have to be cautious with it. I’ll probably have to put a big neck roll on next week to protect it.’’

Nice going Sims. Injure the best of our decimated line. The holding Carter out needs to be over.

How the bye could impact Ware, Austin

November, 5, 2013

By Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas -- When the Dallas Cowboys report for practice on Wednesday they hope to have DeMarcus Ware and Miles Austin on the field.

Ware has missed the past three games with a quadriceps strain. Austin has missed four of the past six games with a hamstring strain.

Of the two, Ware is considered to be the closest to returning, but the Nov. 17 bye week will figure into the team’s decisions on both players.

It could mean different things for both of them. Facing a pass-oriented offense this week in the New Orleans Saints could give Ware a chance to make a calculated return with most of his work coming in the nickel defense. With the bye week the following week, Ware would then have an extra week of rest before the Cowboys play the New York Giants on Nov. 24.

The Cowboys admitted to shutting down Austin last week in hopes of his hamstring getting right for the stretch run. More rest would do him more good than playing in a limited role, like he did against the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles in which he did not catch a pass.

One player will be out through the bye is cornerback Morris Claiborne, who has a hamstring strain and did not play in the 27-23 win against the Minnesota Vikings.

DE Edgar Jones on track to return for Packers game

Defensive end Edgar Jones has missed the past five games after requiring sports hernia surgery. But he expects to return before the end of the season.

The Cowboys played him on injured reserve/designated for return, and he is eligible to be back on the field Dec. 15 against Green Bay.

"We anticipate him being... ready to go when he’s eligible to come back," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday.

Jones, whom the Cowboys acquired in a trade from Kansas City on Aug. 31, started jogging Monday.

"I'm definitely fortunate they IR'd me to return back, but the most important thing with me right now is just taking it one day a time," Jones said Monday. "As long as I'm feeling good, just keep increasing the work."

Jones had five tackles, three quarterback pressures and a pass defensed in 67 defensive snaps. He also played 77 special teams plays.
