I don't think theres a coach out there that can work with Jones AND establish himself as the one and only voice of the team.

That is what its going to take...a strong, vocal coach who makes it clear Jones is to do his job in the background, and not interfere with coaching decisions or ideas.

Until that happens, its going to be more 8-8 seasons of mediocrity.
If a coach comes in and starts getting results, the team will gravitate towards him. That's been a huge problem. Every coach that Jerry has hired without giving a ton of control to, none have yielded results.

Take Bradley for instance. Had we brought him in last offseason and he started to transform this D into the pass rushing, swarm to the ball, hard nosed D that you see in Seattle...than players like Lee will follow him. If Lee follows, others will follow him.

But instead, we get mediocrity and average coaching which causes players to not follow their coach blindly, but have tirades on the sidelines and pout after poor plays.

I'd settle for the more realistic scenario. The coach who can work with Jerry behind the scenes, but still coach up and manage the talent he has on the field. Someone who can manage the game correctly and do the most with what he has. Garrett isn't doing that. He has staff members who are able to take the dogshit talent he's been given and motivate them to play above their talent level. But Garrett himself hasn't done that at all with anyone.
Correct.

I think Arians has shown some promise as well.
I think so too, but I don't want to pass any kind of judgment on these guys 8 games into their HC career. But to brush them all away as if they aren't legit HC prospect and only Andy Reid would have been worth bringing in is foolish.

I was calling to take a knee that entire drive but no, we just have to run it on 3rd and 13 for God only knows what reason, to take an extra 5 seconds off the clock?
No reason at all to run the ball on that drive. The way we ran the ball yesterday there was no way in hell we were getting 10 yards on 3 runs when the Lions knew we were going to run it, none. Knowing that the only things that could've happened on that drive were bad things. Just take a knee 3 times and give them the ball back with less than 30 seconds up 3. That was the best way to go about winning that game at that time. I was saying it before each snap to take a knee because the way things happen to the Cowboys I could see a fumble, never thinking of a damn holding penalty.

I'm still pissed. I'm not one of these "fans" who hope we lose to prove a point or don't give a shit or don't watch the games. I watch every fucking game like most of you and for whatever reason I feel good when they win and like shit when they lose. Always have, always will. 35 years and counting. And today I feel like shit.

What scares me the most is that we will probably win this division and that will be enough for Jerry to keep Garrett even though it will be painfully obvious to everyone except one other person that we were in the playoffs by default and this coach has earned his dismissal.

I'm on board with a coaching upgrade, I don't know who you're referring to about this "other person" who is opposed to a coaching upgrade.

I have my doubts we can even win the division anymore.

If we win the division, even at 7-9, Jerry will definitely keep JG. But I have my doubts JG even gets fired if we miss the playoffs again by losing in the final week. Just.so.close. Gotta have continuity!

I don't know if there is a team in the NFL that Dallas could play and I would think to myself... "Dallas has the edge in coaching this game". Sure, Dallas might beat several of them but not cause the coaching was that much better.

Some coaches just don't have the players to luck into 8-8 seasons every year. Put Garrett in Minnesota or Tampa and I would almost guarantee he would do no better than Frasier or Schiano.

I would love to see what a true offensive mind could do with Dez, Witten and Williams but it's never going happen.

This weekend. But that could change with how the game goes.

Don't Forget About These 5 Plays: Too Many Clock Issues

Posted 1 hour ago

Nick Eatman DallasCowboys.com Staff Writer

DETROIT – With a combined 41 points scored in the fourth quarter, the fireworks were taking place at the end of the game, with five touchdowns in the final stanza.

Naturally, it’s easy to forget a few plays that changed the course. Here is a handful that changed the game:

1. Incomplete to Harris after fumble – Late in the third quarter, the Cowboys led 13-7 and had a first down at the Lions’ 35 following a fumble recovery by Brandon Carr and a penalty on Detroit. Still, the Cowboys never gained a yard and settled for a field goal. On third-and-10, Romo seemingly had Cole Beasley darting over the middle, but went for Dwayne Harris, who also had a step on his defender. The pass went right through Harris’ hands around the 10-yard line, forcing the Cowboys to kick a field goal and keep it a one-score game.

2. Pass interference on Scandrick – The Cowboys led 20-10 with the Lions driving with 10:13 to play. This is a play that really bothered the team’s coaching staff, probably more because of what happened in the first quarter. But Scandrick’s feet got tangled up with receiver Kris Durham, who fell to the ground as the ball passed by. The pass interference penalty resulted in 21 yards to the Cowboys’ 36. Earlier in the game, the Lions were flagged for the same call on a pass to Terrance Williams. However, the officials met and decided to wave off the flag for incidental contact. While Detroit was scoring quickly, an incomplete pass there sets up a must-have third-and-1, and the Lions likely run the ball. Even if they pick up the first, that’s even more time off the clock and Detroit is not at midfield yet.

3. A 54-yarder to Calvin – Take your pick on big plays to Johnson, who was there all day long. And while this was likely his best catch, it still might be forgotten considering the big plays that occurred afterward. But the Cowboys had just scored again on a 50-yard pass to Dez Bryant. The Lions were down 10 with 6:45 left. Stafford heaves it up for Johnson, who is double-covered by Carr and Heath. But it doesn’t matter, as Johnson hauls in the 54-yarder that puts the Lions in great position again. Detroit used that big play to score with 3:37 left. And with two timeouts, they can kick the ball away and play defense. Without that big pass to Johnson, the Lions would’ve had to nickel-and-dime down the field, and even if they scored, would’ve likely been in onside-kick mode.

4. Incomplete pass to Beasley – If you’re watching close, this play shouldn’t be forgotten. This was arguably the play of the game. The Cowboys have a 20-17 lead with 2:38 remaining and have third-and-12 at their 23. The Lions have just called their first timeout on the previous play. Instead of a draw play or another run that would’ve forced Detroit into taking its second timeout or letting the clock run down to the 2-minute warning, the Cowboys call a pass. Romo rolled to his right after heavy pressure and flung a pass to Beasley, which landed closer to the front row of the seats. Even taking a sack there might have been better off for the Cowboys, who were able to stop the Lions on the next possession. Had they gotten the ball back with 1:24 remaining and Detroit had just one timeout, the game is over with three kneel-downs.

5. Holding on Smith – And here was Play of the Game 2. The Cowboys lead 27-24 and it’s third down and 14 yards to go on the 35 of Detroit. At this point, the Cowboys are thinking a safe run and a punt. Anything to keep the clock rolling. The snap started at 1:14 and without any stoppage, it would’ve rolled down to about 30 seconds. The Cowboys would’ve likely punted the ball and tried to pin Detroit back to around its 10. Either way, the Lions had no timeouts and needed to get into field-goal range. But on the third-down run, left tackle Tyron Smith was flagged for holding. Even though Detroit declined the penalty, the stoppage of play kept the clock from starting. The Cowboys settled for a field goal, but the Lions got the ball back with 1:02 to play.

He's not better. They are practically the same.
I agree. Neither of them are capable of walking into a franchise and changing the culture of it. I know it's hard to do with Jerry around but I just don't see it in his personality. The Baltimore fan base should kiss Jerry's wrinkled up ass every day for not letting them hire him.

This comment says it all:

"When you step back from it, it probably shouldn't just shock you that they were able to make three big plays and score," Jones said. "You kind of felt like they were ready to have that kind of drive or that kind of possession all day long. But certainly it's a real tough one for everyone involved. You get that close, even though we want to give them credit, they overcame their turnovers and they played through their turnovers and they were able to take home a great victory for them. This was an important victory and it was a very disappointing loss for us."

Yep. They were like due and stuff.

Perfect example as to why this is a .500 team over the last 15 years.

Excuses, explanations and Papa Jones running interference.

Yeah, don't be shocked we couldn't even run :30 off the clock in the final 2 minutes, gave them the ball back with just over a minute left and then let them go 80 yards in 3 plays. Happens all the time.

All Jerry cares about is the team being relevant so he can sell his tickets and merchandise. If we win, great. But if not, no biggie.
