You may be the most obsessed person I have encountered about Jerry Jones.
18 years of losing with him being the primary cause will lead to that. But yeah, let's just concentrate on rearranging the deck furniture on the Titantic.

Ok, and I agree with that part of the post. But, you're hiring one of 3 kinds of guys. Retread which you sound like you don't want, a former Coordinator who only has experience on one side of the ball which is sounds like you don't want and a college coach with HC experience which outside of Shaw I don't think anyone would want.

You can't have a guy with proven HC credentials who will "fix the whole team". Those guys are taken. So you hope to get a retread that can fix areas he's proven to fix at other places and hope it yields positive results.
Well, again, Andy Reid was hired in 2013. Jim Harbaugh in 2011. Rex Ryan in 2009.

Those are all guys I would have supported because I think they are actually good team commanders and leaders, and I would have gone all-in on them had we had a coaching vacancy. Most of the best coaches are taken but you get the good HC prospects every year or two. It's all the rest of the names on the list that are just treading water. You can add Fisher and Shanahan to that list for 2012 and 2010, respectively, though I think they fall more into the "retread" category that I don't think would get us over the hump, as you could see a guy like Gruden being that big name 2014 hire.

But yeah, I'm not a fan of Gruden. I'm just saying, those guys are out there. But it's not like every Doug Marrone or Marc Trestman makes a good hire who is anything better than what we already have.

If Garrett had this same exact coaching resume any where else, who here thinks Schmitty would be defending him?

I am still constantly amazed that we can find ways to lose like this. There are some limitations to this team, but there are quite a few teams with limitations and they somehow find ways to win. Using Jerry as an excuse does not work anymore...he is what he is, once those players are out on the field that is the responsibility of the coach.

Gruden is definitely a guy I want now. We need that coach who will take the spotlight off of Romo and be the lightning rod. Garrett cannot do it. He might do well in another organization or in the college ranks, but I just don't see him winning here.

100% agree on all counts.

Truth. He'd be saying he's never done anything, he's got no pedigree, and he'd never win here.

When you have extreme views you have to be stubborn about it. I went down that road with Hambrick, but eventually I admitted fault. He does not...matter of fact he'd like you to rank all the coaches, then provide a list of coaches for him to peruse. Chop chop, peasant.

Jason Garrett, Bruce Arrian, Doug Marone, Rob Chudzinski, Gus Bradley, Joe Philbin, Leslie Frazier, Dennis Allan, Chip Kelley, Greg Shiano, Mike Munchak.

Out of that group, Frazier and Shiano go to 31 and 32 off the bat.

I can't wait till Mike Zimmer is our next coach, though. Blech.
I just love your straw man argument that we shouldn't fire Garrett because you don't want Zimmer.

One, whether Garrett should be fired (he should) and who should replace him (open to debate) are two separate issues. But Garrett has earned his dismissal. Once we get that part done, we should hire the best replacement we can find.

Two, and significantly, I highly doubt anyone is advocating Zimmer.

Yeah.... I agree. He's one of those middle of the road coaches who can't win here with this roster.
...and therefore should be replaced.

(if Garrett is middle of the road he is towards the bottom of the middle of the pack.)

Actually, Deuce and I had kinda moved on and were talking about the coaching debate when Garrett does get fired.

No, but he's the caliber guy we're gonna get.

Also.... there is something to be said for waiting for the right guy. Sorry if you can't admit that, but it's true. If you hire a new coach now, there is just a zero percent chance that Jerry will fire him the very next offseason. Once he's got 2-3 years in, then he's fireable. I definitely would like to have that fireable window open to make a move for the right guy.

At least I have the Sixers and Mets. :towel

At least the Sixers have a plan (I don't know anything about the Mets). They're trying to be the 1989 Cowboys. They may never get to the 92 Cowboys, but at least they have a plan.

The current Cowboys' plan is to stock up on bandaids.
