I just don't believe in Wentz beyond the regular season. I mean there's being jinxed and then there's being Wentz'ed. WTH

And even still he's always had the OL, Defense, and Coaching to coddle him. I never get the feeling he's carrying the team, and Nick Folk proved it over multiple games in a row.

Hell, his own team drafted a fucking QB in the 2nd round right in the middle of his second contract! :lol

I could give a fuck about god damned "Market Value". Market Value was coined in football terms by agents soon after FA started and the NFL foolishly capitulated to it, unwilling or too stupid to set true standards of performance.

No non-Elite QB is worth franchise money three seasons in a row as part of an extended deal like that. Sure the cap can be managed to swing it, but your team can't keep anyone worth a damn once it kicks in.

Once we sign a deal like that, it's usually the beginning of the end.

"Market Value" was coined like a 150 years ago and had nothing to do with football at the time.

The term is a crutch for agents to overcharge, and NFL GM's literally bought into it. Neil O'Donnell signed a 5 year 25 million deal with the Jets because "Market Value" had been established by a real QB earlier.

People were shocked, and the agents to a man cited "Market Value" as the reason.

So yeah, there's Market Value, and then there's "Actual Value". The latter is too hard to put into a formula, hence we are where we are today.

At some point, you have to say no.

I don't understand what you're getting at.

You're saying that Jets ownership scoffed at 5/25 for O'Donnell and then an agent waved his wand and said "Market Value" and boom...signed. It's moreso the Jets are just idiots for thinking O'Donnell was a top tier QB than being hornswaggled by a term.

No one thought he was great, but they were forced to pay “market value”. Of course they soon cut him.

Basically Dak is getting a giant salary not because he deserves it, but because agents have institutionalized fleecing these guys.

And it kills the teams ability to sign or re-sign anyone good

I don’t recall the League mandating 5/25 terms based off slotting free agent contract prices nor do I recall the Jets being mandated to sign O’Donnell.

No, when Lamar Jackson has a legitimate performance in a win over a playoff opponent, you’ll have a point. So far, he’s 0-2, putting up 17 and 12 points.

Put Lamar Jackson on the 2019 Cowboys under Jason Garrett and we go about 6-10, straight up.

The guy could end up great if he improves as a passer and marries that with selective running but his 2019 season was mainly the product of excellent coaching/offensive structure designed to maximize his running ability with relatively simple throws designed off it.

To put him in a category with Mahomes/Wilson above guys like Brees, Rodgers and so forth is preposterous. He's in the same "good, maybe great, but still not really sure" category along with Wentz, Goff, Watson, etc.
