I dunno what you're talking about. That would be a ~40% kill rate and that makes no sense. 2-3 millions was worst case that I have heard.

By the way, this all seems theoretical, but I've had 3 patients now from the same NH. One of them is likely going to die. Also had a totally healthy 40 something year old guy with horrible pneumonia needing oxygen (not intubation so far thank god). His wife was sick too but improving and didn't need to come to the hospital. The other day we had another couple, one of whom was a postal carrier. This thing is the Beast as they're calling it in NYC. There are sick people from every walk of like you can imagine.

China produces over 50% of the worlds masks, The US with 5% of the world’s population has roughly 35 million masks. Let’s say their reserves are double what they represent to world population so 10%. That means 350 million masks worldwide, half of them Chinese. Out of 175 million masks you have one report of 600,000 defective masks from one batch from one supplier.
You’re right you should throw away all Chinese made masks immediately, it’s the only reasonable thing to do.

Who is the largest distributor of hospital grade masks in America?

Does 3M make them? I know they make construction grade masks, but I assume those aren’t adequate.

There’s no way in hell there should be a shortage at this stage in the game. There should be several factories across the United States who’s only objective is to pump out masks.

I think it’s more likely there are stockpiles of them sitting around waiting to be cleared by whatever government bureaucracy that thinks they know better than the company who would ultimately be responsible for putting out an inferior product if unchecked.
