Per NFL.com: "NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on NFL Network's "GameDay Morning" that the Cowboys are no longer sold on Murray as a franchise running back. The Cowboys have had internal discussions about upgrading the position, "possibly in a big way" as we gear up to the trading deadline, Rapoport reported."

So who are we trading two first for and then paying $50M.

Im seeing this on NFL network as well. I like that we're being so much more pro active and hope we don't pull a bonehead move like you say...

Who ever thought Murray was a franchise running back? If so they were dumb.

But you don't need Emmitt Smith in today's NFL. You need a couple of solid guys of which Murray can certainly be one.

Trading for a big name running back would be a huge, huge mistake and obviously par for the course with Jerral.

There's no way in hell the Cowboys should go all in on a RB unless Garrett and Callahan seriously dial down the passing plays. Right now they are only running the ball approximately 35% of the time.

Even if they did balance things out more giving of premium resources for a RB is foolish in this day and age.

The trade deadline comes in only nine days. With four significant trades already happening during the 2013 season (Trent Richardson to Indy, Jon Beason to the Giants, Eugene Monroe to the Ravens, and Levi Brown to the Steelers), more could be coming.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggested earlier this morning that the Cowboys could make a move at running back. Rapoport explains that the Cowboys have begun to realize that the injury-prone DeMarco Murray isn’t the long term answer at the position. (Which would mean that the Cowboys have become the last ones to realize that Murray lacks the durability to be a franchise-type tailback.)

The most obvious target would be Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew. Even though G.M. Dave Caldwell has said that Jones-Drew won’t be traded, we’ve reported that he’d be available at the right price.

Speaking of price, the Cowboys could have to scramble a bit to fit the balance of Jones-Drew’s $4.9 million base salary under the cap, given that Dallas currently has $2.2 million in space, according to NFLPA records.

Other names to watch would be, in our estimation, Lions running back Mikel Leshoure, Saints running back Mark Ingram, and Raiders running back Darren McFadden. Leshoure and Ingram have gotten buried on their respective depth charts; McFadden is in the final year of his rookie deal.

McFadden’s name is the most intriguing of the bunch. He played at Jerry Jones’ alma mater, and there was plenty of speculation in 2008 that Jones would trade up to pick the former Razorback, who reportedly was the No. 1 pick on the Dallas draft board that year. (The Cowboys instead stayed up and took Arkansas teammate Felix Jones.)

Whether or not the Cowboys make a move, the clock is ticking.

So...we are frustrated with Murray's injury issues, yet we might look into trading for McFadden?

Sounds like Jerry.

I agree. I'd love to have Murray be part of a RB by committee set but he's simply not durable enough to be a RB that gets 20 carries a game week after week.

I'd keep him around and let him walk when his contract is up after the 2014 season.

I want to see Randle again. I think he was so conscious of not fumbling that he was not as fluid as he can be. Not saying he is a world beater, but he is better than what he has shown so far.

I would give up like a 5th or 6th for MJD, under no circumstances should we be giving up a 2nd or something along those lines though. I'm glad that we might be moving on from Murray, too injury prone and I'm not a fan of his running style, I also think his balance leaves alot to be desired.

And AD is Peterson, a joke, but still.

What makes it even more evident is that McFadden struggles with zone blocking in front of him.

It's coming, kids.

Looking at those names it doesn't look like they're interested in upgrading the position "in a big way".

Mark Ingram is also injury prone, and oh BTW, he sucks.
