Damn, 10 million for nothing.

That's why those idiots should have gone to the draft and let this guy walk.

Idiots.

From merely a football perspective, this sucks. The way this line was getting after it in recent weeks, I really wanted to see what they did with Spencer out there.

I'm disappointed but not shocked.

I ask the question again. Why on God's green earth did the Cowboys sit on their hands and not bring in a single DL via the draft or FA?

There is a lot of attrition along the DL due to the pounding that these guys take. So why roll the dice on an extremely long shot that everyone will remain healthy for 16 games.

Idiotic team management all around.

We're getting good play from our linemen now but we all know these guys likely won't be able to sustain this level of play.

Me either.

I've learned that when it comes to this team's injuries, they usually are either lying or clueless on the diagnosis because our guys almost always sit out longer or have more serious issues than the team originally suggests.

I hope Spencer didn't blow all the good money he made from being a franchise player two years.

This seemed like a good idea at the time.

Nice contract, Jer!
It's a good thing they're in such a tight situation with their salary cap because otherwise they'd be freaking out that this is the first or second year of a 5 year $60M type of deal.

Not convinced on the pass rush yet. As teams get more film on what we are doing, they will catch on. It is good to enjoy what Selvie is doing and nice to hope Marinelli has the Midas Touch, but it would be a miracle if he unearthed a quality starter from a guy who never caught on anywhere else. So I am hopeful, but the internal skeptic in me won't accept it as fact yet.

It is not inconceivable that by the end of the year, we will be back to where we thought we were in camp...screwed.
I have hope for Selvie for 2 reasons. One, he's has that rare combination of a good athlete with the high motor. His sack this past week was a coverage sack, but he still got it cause he didn't give up on the play. Two, this scheme is what he excelled in in college. I have no idea what differences the Tampa 2 are from what he did in Jacksonville or St. Louis or wherever else he was from a DE standpoint, but this is what he was asked to do at USF and that made him an All American.

I still remember at one point when his name was being tossed around like a potential first round pick. Even though he has 2 sacks so far this year his impact in terms of rushing the passer and just making plays in general has been even greater. I know people are expecting our pass rusher to slow down substantially but I don't think so. I'm seeing the same type of pass rush that you see out of the Bears all season long. Their D-line isn't just built around elite players (Peppers) it is also built around middle and late round picks that just fit the scheme and get the job done. I haven't seen a pass rush that looked this good and consistent in Dallas in a long time. It isn't just Ware getting to the QB. You are seeing Hatcher dominate up the middle and Selvie continually pushing the pocket. Hayden is doing his job of basically helping to free those guys up.

If I could get Selvie on a cheap 2-3 year deal right now I would.

good lord. How much better could our team be without his albatross contract? This is just bad luck but we shouldn't have done it in the first place, and we shouldn't have put his fatass on the field last week. He obviously wasn't ready.

If he really has a bone on bone condition, then playing him last week or not wouldn't have made a bit of difference.

The real mistake was franchising him and giving him 11 million.

Yep. I knew there was more to it when they were'nt practicing him like they said they would.

Same here.

Miles Austin's hamstring injury which is "not serious" is probably a full blown tear. They just don't know it yet.

Like I said before, as a fan you should know to totally disregard the team's information on injuries because in recent years, they have always been more serious than they initially state.

It's funny you say that because when Garrett said it wasn't serious and claimed they sat him out because of the score, the first thing I thought was "I've heard that one before".

I have no doubt that he'll either miss time or we'll get some comment from Garrett later in the season during his PC how Miles just hasn't really been healthy or something to that effect to explain why he hasn't been all that effective.

Mark it down.

The 11 million really sucks and I was against it from the very beginning. Thank god though we didn't lock him up into a 60 mil long term deal. I'm guessing the Cowboys had an idea about the injury beforehand and that's why they didn't work out a long term deal. Instead they were hoping to squeeze one more year out of the player before the knee became a problem. It's the same concept with Leary. They have a good idea the knee will become a problem down the road but they are hoping to get early dividends on him before that happens.

Jerry reminds me of Costner's character in 'Tin Cup' when he stubbornly hits shot after shot into the water.

So he's eventually going to hole the shot out and be the hero everyone remembers?

YES!
