Romo on changing plays at the line

IRVING, Texas -- Tony Romo held his weekly interview session Wednesday at Valley Ranch and the Dallas Cowboys struggling run game was obviously a popular topic.

With the Cowboys throwing the ball 52 more times than they have run it through two games, Romo was asked about checking into passing plays at the line of scrimmage.

"It'd be silly just to run the ball to where you can't block an extra guy," Romo explained. "That's part of the game. When some people are doing that, they're leaving Dez [Bryant] by himself.

"It's part of what defenses have to decide — what they're going to give up — and sometimes it can be a big benefit."

Romo continues to say that the Cowboys would like to run the ball more, but he's going to take what the defense is giving him. The franchise quarterback doesn't see any sense in running the ball more often when opponents are stuffing the box.

On top of that, Cowboys starting running back DeMarco Murray hasn't been given many running lanes this season, made evident by his 2.1 yards per carry Sunday in Kansas City and 3.5 yards per carry on the season.

So how does the run-blocking improve?

"I think it's a combination of things," Romo said. "Run-blocking really takes all 11 guys. … I think we can do a better job individually and then collectively as a group. Everyone will get better."

Romo and Callahan's comments confirm that we're in for a repeat of 2012. Running the football will be an afterthought.

This clueless prick is always talking about taking what the defense gives you. Instead of allowing the defense to dictate your play calling how about forcing the issue for a change, douche.

If the philosophy is to go away from plays that aren't working then why were they passing so much Sunday? The passing game was garbage as well.

Romo had a good competition percentage but the bulk of those completions seem like they were for 5 yards or less.

Actually, Garrett kinda threw Romo under the bus a little bit the last couple of days.

I think we will see a little less KILL KILL KILL from Tony this week.

Feh. I'll believe it when I see it.

If Romo were the Vikings QB Adrian Peterson probably wouldn't sniff 1,000 yards.

Maybe.

Remember, Romo has the mandate from Jerry far more than Red Pube.

I wonder if Romo goes Garrett at the line this week and tries to overcompensate for something he's recently criticized for.

I can see him running 40 times this week only to then say "well, we tired to run and it just didnt work. "

I don't get why Romo can't just run the ball away from where the defense is bringing an extra guy. He makes it sound like if he doesn't pass the ball we will be running right into a blitzing player. I don't want Romo to force things but you also can't let the defense dictate exactly what you're going to do on every play. It makes it too easy for the defense to predict what you are going to do.

That was basically what Garrett said.

It will be interesting to see how much Romo audibles this week.

If Romo was the one who changed the play to the screen to Williams when Dez was one on one, I'd never let the fucking retard change a play again.

I think they said that was a called play.

Might be wrong.

Romo is not really suited to changing plays. Once again Jer put the wrong guy in charge.

Of course Romo audibled to that dumbass play, if that was the play that was called he wouldn't have been going to each of the OL and giving them instruction. I can hardly remember such a bad audible from Romo, it really stuck out as especially horrible.

Romo is clueless as a playcaller. There's just too much to keep track of for a QB to have a clue how to run a game in the modern NFL. Audibles are exceptions, not the rule.

Peyton Manning should have gone to several Superbowls, IMO, but like Dan Marino he has too much power and influence and ends up passing way too much. He thinks he knows what he's doing on a given play, but he's not sitting in a booth next to a computer measuring trends and watching aerial footage like the offensive coordinator is.

He's also overly confident in his own abilities and forgets the effect a running game can have on an opposing defense and how it can preserve your own defense. Troy Aikman knew that, and he has 3 rings because of it.

The Colts finally won in 2006 when other people in the huddle had to tell Peyton to fucking run the football.
