Partial UCL tear in elbow for Matt Harvey. Yikes.
Yeah, may require TJ according to some tweets but that has to be speculation. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. He doesn't play for my team (real or fantasy) but it would be a damn shame for another exciting young pitcher to have to miss a full season for TJ.

Alderson say they were surprised by the injury.

Umm... don't think anybody ever knows beforehand???

I think he was surprised to see the partial tear on the MRI. They were hoping for just soreness and fatigue.

Wishful thinking to believe no Tommy John surgery. Might as well go in now and get it fixed.

Yeah...I don't even want to talk about it. Pitchers can come back from TJ surgery, but it is a god damn shame. If Wheeler gets hurt it is Generation K all over again.

Our best pitching prospect went down for TJ surgery earlier this year. He's still young and the recovery rate is so much better now so I'm not too worried, but it's horrible to think about. Best case scenario is he comes back healthy but still loses over a year of his development.

Feliz recovery was just about a year. He has been on rehab assignments for about a month now and when rosters expand he will be up with the club. A lot faster than it used to be and more successful. It sucks for sure but its not career threatening like it used to be.

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck in a trade Tuesday with the New York Mets, a source told ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin.

The Mets received infield prospect Dilson Herrera and a player to be named, a source confirmed to Rubin.

Pittsburgh, which is attempting to reach the postseason for the first time since 1992, certainly bolstered its offense with the addition of Byrd, who is batting .285 with a career-high 21 home runs and 71 RBIs this season.

The 35-year-old Byrd should help the Pirates overcome the absence of leadoff hitter and star left fielder Starling Marte, who is on the disabled list with a hand injury.

Buck, who has 15 homers and 60 RBIs, figures to serve as a backup to Pirates catcher Russell Martin.

Pittsburgh (76-54) entered Tuesday one-half game behind the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.

The Mets parted ways with the veteran duo one day after announcing that ace pitcher Matt Harvey has a partially torn ligament in his elbow and may require Tommy John surgery.

New York decided to retain Byrd at the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, citing a lack of attractive offers as well as a desire to finish the season strongly. Only $130,000 remains owed on Byrd's salary this season.

The Mets also passed on trading Buck at the non-waiver deadline, but the circumstances have changed at catcher. Rookie Travis d'Arnaud is receiving the bulk of the playing time, having recovered from a fractured first metatarsal in his left foot. D'Arnaud made his major league debut Aug. 17.

Herrera, 19, is batting .265 with 11 homers at Class A West Virginia this season. The second baseman appeared in this year's All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field.

Information from ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin was used in this report.

Good for the Mets. Keep the rebuild going.

I don't know anything about Herrerra though but I assume he must be a decent bet to be a major leaguer someday.

He'll most likely come back and be fine. What sucks is if he has the surgery he'll miss the rest of this season and all of next season. You don't get to see him pitch and he doesn't help the Mets any. 2014 was to be a year where there was a bit of hope with the young pitchers and then some money to spend on some OF bats. I'd be more pissed about him missing 35 starts or so and not helping the Mets then any thought of him not coming back anywhere near where he was. He'll be back.

Luckily, Dylan Bundy got his TJ surgery now at like age 20.

It's just inevitable for most of these guys.

When we were in Texas last week we went to a Ranger game against Houston. It was fun... Neither my wife nor my kids had ever been to a major league game before. It was extra cool because it was the game where Andrus won it in the ninth on a sac fly, and he's my wife's favorite Ranger.

Beer is ridiculously expensive though. My only complaint.

Went to a Dodgers game tonight, $13.25 for a Blue Moon. $12.50 for a Coors Light...they were large cans though.

Did I read or hear somewhere that Buck Showalter thinks the first course of action every club should take upon drafting a pitcher, is having them undergo TJ surgery? His belief is that it strengthens the joint and lessens the chance of the injury happening again. Can this be correct? And even if it is, how ethical is this?
