It happens an unreasonable amount of time compared to the rest of the league. Or at least it did last year.

The way you and Geng talk you would think that our OL is actually competent.
It has looked competent all preseason. Considering these are different players then you saw last year you can't just assume the same results.

I don't really understand the thinking here so Berny is out as a starter because Leary seems to be a lock.

And this also means Livings and Arkin are gone which is not a bad thing.

This just all seems so haphazard considering Free got no reps at G until last week.:shrug

You question this team's decisions on the OL?

Welcome to the damn club.

So Parnell is the RT even though he looked even worse than Free? Awesome.

How the hell did we not bring in a legit RT this offseason (no Bell doesn't count)?

Because the plan was to...err...move Free...and stuff.

Just so you know and I am sure you do, we make up shit as we go along.

True but if they want the Best Starting 5 (TM), that's Smith/Leary/Frederick/Bernardeau/Free.

"I think adding Travis Frederick, the emergence of Ron Leary, Doug Free at guard..I think all of those things will help us run the ball better" - Garrett, today.

Yep. You betcha.
Well, to be fair, it'd be hard to be worse than Bernadeau.

The question remains, though, is the pairing of Free-Parnell on the right side better than Bernadeau-Free?

Sadly, this could have been a moot point had we offered Moore and Clabo or Winston about 4 months ago.

But that wasn't the plan then.

Regardless of what idiotic bullshit you hear coming from Garrett or either Jones right now...you cannot tell me the plan was when Free took his paycut that they would move him inside.

The simple plain truth is this...we were painted into a corner with Free's contract.

We gave him the opportunity to take the deal or leave. He took it.

Meanwhile that stupid dance cost us a chance at either Tyson Clabo or Eric Winston.

Then, once we played the shell game with the contracts, like we always have to do (after signing turds like Costa and McCray), we were high and dry at that point.

Then, we did the inexplicable. We tried to offer two old POS guards around $2M a year (same as Clabo or Winston) to play guard only.

Sorry, unless you are a complete retard, you don't believe this shit and it honestly is insulting that they honestly think that anyone with a functional working brain would believe it.

Scary thing is, half or more than half of our idiotic fanbase believes it.

We don't have a coherent plan on the OL. That comes straight from our GM, who hasn't had one for the past decade.

The same applies to Garrett who has been complicit in all of this mess.

Parnell was decent last year when splitting with Free, if he can play like that full-time I think we will have upgraded both OG spots, although marginally in Free's case, and center of course with Frederick.

Huge "if" but it's possible, I hate that this idiotic organization basically ignored OG and is now scrambling like fools after the fact but at least they're moving guys around and trying every possibility, it's better than "the roster is set" or whatever that saying was.

This leaves us razor thin at OT. I'd give Sean Locklear a call before someone else has an OT go down with an injury.

I find it very hard to believe Free is an upgrade at guard.

As an aside, supposedly Danny Watkins is on the bubble for the Eagles. If he gets cut I think he'd be a clear upgrade for us.

Agreed, or else a competent tackle who gets cut. As far as I am concerned, tackle is our biggest hole right now.

Smith-Leary-Frederick works for me. Even though they're all young and unproven, they showed enough to justify starting.

But starting Free at RG at this point is insane. If they wanted him there, they should have moved him inside to start TC and get him as much time as possible with Frederick. Starting Parnell is only compounding the error. Instead of having a decent RT to help cover over Free's weaknesses, now the whole right side of the OL sucks.

We've virtually made ourselves a one handed team.

I don't even know what to say anymore when it comes to Jerruh... The guy seems unable to make an intelligent GM-related decision.

Jerry said on his radio show that Free was "nothing short of amazing".

No wonder we are eternally screwed on the OL.

I'm going to have to rewatch the first half, I don't think Free was as bad as most of you are making it out to be but I know for damn sure that he wasn't "amazing".

He was not bad. But to call him amazing? Nope.
