If Free is definitely our RT, why wasnt Parnell tried out inside? At least he isn't as big and can get out of the crouch faster.

That's what I don't understand either. By moving Free inside you're making the RT position weaker and not necessarily solidifying RG since Free has no experience there. I thought Free did Ok inside. But Parnell was just bad. I would rather worry about guard than tackle.

I really hope they are at least considering replacing Bisaccia.

Maybe we can salvage the unit under different leadership. I haven't seen any improvement over this year's ST unit compared to last year's unit.

In fact, I'd argue that they've regressed.

They have regressed. Significantly.

I agree. They've been dicking around trying to find another competent guard, meanwhile not seemingly worrying about tackle and thinking they have a "plan" for Bell.

I'm with you; I'd rather improve RT and deal with a subpar guard than vice versa.

I agree with you except for the assumption that our Oline will automatically be that bad at run blocking this year again. Even this horrific performance you claim against the Bengals didn't lead to many negative runs. It still led to 2 TDs in the first half against their starting unit.

Our Oline is different then last year if for no other reason then we almost certainly upgraded two interior starting spots. Plus you have a LT now with actual LT experience. It isn't a stretch to think we will be better upfront. And please don't confuse that with me thinking we will be great up front.
It's still wing and a prayer. We will see. It would be hard to be worse than last year but a couple times in these preseason games, it has looked that bad. Though obviously we are only seeing a series or so at a time and we only saw Smith-Leary-Frederick for what, 1 game?

It is impossible despite all the contradicting evidence.
What contradicting evidence? The evidence you keep using to prove that we aren't any good on offense?

Funny how it was originally impossible to be successful with this line. Presented with evidence disproving that claim, now it's "some weeks," as if almost all offenses ever don't struggle "some weeks."
It is (almost) impossible to be successful with this line (I say almost because I make exception for the Bill Parcells-like coaching performance, that might be able to lift them).

If you interpret that to mean "We can never run a successful play on offense" then you are clearly deliberately misrepresenting what I am saying, or you're an idiot.

Obviously we can have successfully blocked plays, or drives, or even entire games sometimes. Look at the Baltimore game last year, it was a decent enough effort.

By and large the OL is far too inconsistently good, and far too consistently bad, for it to be possible to sustain a consistent top ranked scoring and yardage offense. The numbers do put up, mostly impressive yardage wise, are due to Romo and the receivers (and of course Garrett calling the plays and routes to get the ball to the receivers).

So when you say something like it depends what the other team is doing some weeks, isn't that essentially saying it depends whether your coach is being outcoached? Yep.
No, I am not saying that.

Some teams have personnel matchups on defense that may make it easier or harder for them to take advantage of our weaknesses, or individual performances on a weekly basis could explain the discrepancies.

On a weekly basis, the offense's inability to mount successful drives isn't based on poor playcalls, it is based on reasonable playcalls that do not work due to unreasonable personnel flaws.

You could ask, "Well then how is it reasonable to call a play that didn't work" but it's never unreasonable to call a run on 2nd and 6 or 1st and 10 or third and 1. Yet when we do it, and it puts us in a long yardage situation, that limits what can be called on the next play and the rest of the drive. That's not being outcoached. It's a product of not having the bare minimum of competency that almost all other offensive coaches can rely on.

Okay, I opened this thread to try and get a gauge for how we played since I didn't get to watch, and all I have seen is arguing. So, is there anyone that can give me just a quick synopsis of how we looked?

1st quarter was awful.

Penalties, sloppy play, and poor special teams.

Defense did not look good on their opening drive but were saved by a Barry Church forced fumble inside of our 5 yard line. But from that point on, the defense looked solid.

The offensive line sucks, but you already knew that. They were subpar in pass blocking, but awful in run blocking. Romo looked sharp, Dez looks poised for a monster year, and Miles look good and showed a burst.

The OL Wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination but they were adequate and kept the team in the game more so than the prior preseason games.

It's unreal to me that they saw how his ST performed in SD last year and thought it would be an upgrade. Particularly with Tobin and April available.
Tobin? April?

Hell, Dave Toub, the best ST guy in the league was available.

Yeah...that would make sense, but I am glad we tried him at another position...anything to salvage the player.

I believe they all three started the first two preseason games. They all looked great in those games as well.

Again, I don't think Frederick is really a wring a prayer. He is a big time player. If you want to call Leary a wring and a prayer you can but he is hardly your average undrafted free agent and all reports this year are that he has been great.

I wonder if Dez will get more attention during the season...teams just don't seem to be rolling coverage his way.

Warning...if you misspell "meet" it is an entirely different type of website.
