Actually, vision is something he's displayed quite well in his young career.

I didn't think he had much of it when he came out of school, but while he certainly has his limitations, I don't think vision is one of them.

Agreed.

Call me a homer but I was impressed with the O-line considering what they did with Free and Parnell starting.

I am most happy that Callahan kept pressing the running game Tanner had 14 carries in the 1st half, after the way we started running the ball Garrett would have started chucking it all over the place.

I don't expect us to be a great running team, but we need to be a consistent threat and I still want no parts of Free at guard come regular season.

Tanney is just awful. I don't get why people like him.
Tanney will never make it to the practice squad. He will take over at age 32 when Romo retires. We must keep him on the roster no matter how impractical.

I would like to think that Heath's emergence means McCray goes away, but I doubt it.
I'm not sure I see a way to keep both if they also love Matt Johnson.

If

Allen
Church
Wilcox
and Johnson

are locks, we were already thinking that adding McCray as a 5th was a stretch causing us to lose someone we didn't want at another position. There is just no way we keep McCray AND Heath, and make it 6 safeties.

Yep...that's why despite his struggles I'd still rather go with Geno Smith over Mark Sanchez.

At least with a young player there is the hope that he'll learn from his mistakes and improve.
Man. After Geno Smith's performance tonite, I'm not sure you can still say that. It was Quincy Carter-esque.

Exactly. But the fact that we are able to overcome the offensive line and still be pretty productive against a good defense doesn't fit Smitty's agenda, so...
Most weeks we can't overcome it, that's not agenda, it's fact.

If we can just playcall around it, it should be as easy as calling whatever it was that worked tonite.

Except it's not, so.... the OL still holds us back.

Cue defensive response and slight of hand comment about the offensive line.
Cue misplaced condescension from Geng, and I say misplaced, since he's wrong.

And yet we won and Romo passed for almost 300 yards. Harder to operate? Of course. Impossible? Uh no.
Some weeks it is impossible, you don't get the same opponent doing the same things every week.

Case in point, the Atlanta game last year.

Correct. Parcells for one was a big proponent of that.
I would say it's correct if you aren't losing yardage as often as we do.

Getting 2 yards per carry is ok to keep them honest.

Losing 2 yards per carry a third of the time kills drives. It's practically like taking a penalty. And you lose a down.

You can't live with that.

Normally you are correct, but our OL is so ridiculously bad at run blocking some weeks that you simply can't keep going back to it. Two runs to put you in 3rd and 6 is fine. Two runs to put you in third and 14 is drive over. The defense doesn't respect those loss of yardages. It puts you in situations where you must be one-dimensional anyway.

I agree with you except for the assumption that our Oline will automatically be that bad at run blocking this year again. Even this horrific performance you claim against the Bengals didn't lead to many negative runs. It still led to 2 TDs in the first half against their starting unit.

Our Oline is different then last year if for no other reason then we almost certainly upgraded two interior starting spots. Plus you have a LT now with actual LT experience. It isn't a stretch to think we will be better upfront. And please don't confuse that with me thinking we will be great up front.

Except for special team play things were not that bad for this time of the season. Based on what I have seen with other teams Dallas can compete favorably with most.

Lets see how that shakes out. Sucks Leary is banged up, needs playing time and line needs continuity, but I think this group will be a lot better than last year. I know that's not saying much, but we were on the brink of the playoffs with that horrific OL performance last year.

Don't like Free playing RG yesterday. If he's your RT then play him there. After last season he needs all the game time prep at RT he can get.

It is impossible despite all the contradicting evidence.

Funny how it was originally impossible to be successful with this line. Presented with evidence disproving that claim, now it's "some weeks," as if almost all offenses ever don't struggle "some weeks."

So when you say something like it depends what the other team is doing some weeks, isn't that essentially saying it depends whether your coach is being outcoached? Yep.

Agreed. It was pretty retarded to put Free at guard. That right side of the line was pretty horrid yesterday.

And yet, 14 points in the 1st half and moved the ball pretty well, and the thing that held us back more than anything was idiotic mistakes, especially on special teams.

But I'm sure we were able to be successful against a very good Bengals defensive line because the Bengals were, um, doing other things and stuff.

Made no sense to me either. If Free is your starting RT and Bernie is your starting RG then let the two play those positions and plug Arkin in at LG. Why the hell would you shuffle a bunch of guys around. This is the time these guys should be building continuity with each other but instead you are experimenting still. Experimenting is something you do at the begining of training camp, not a couple of weeks before the season starts.

It actually looked like pretty much the opposite. They got the sack on Romo early by running a pretty complicated blitz. Early on the Bengals looked like they were coming out as though it was a real game. Garrett on the other hand came out like he was trying to work on some different plays that Dallas doesn't run as often and generally kept things pretty bland.

I really hope they are at least considering replacing Bisaccia.

Maybe we can salvage the unit under different leadership. I haven't seen any improvement over this year's ST unit compared to last year's unit.

In fact, I'd argue that they've regressed.
