Part that is sickening is seeing Crosby and GB's receivers being nearly flawless against us and then the next week he's misses a 30-something yard FG and receivers are dropping easy passes left and right. so typical.
So much this.

It would've been tough but Atlanta's defense struggles against the run and Green Bay is in no position to exploit that. It would've been close until the end I'm sure and could've gone either way.

I don't think we could've beaten the Patriots though. The Steelers got eaten up when they tried to rush 3 and drop 8 in zones, which is something we've done alot of this year. It would've taken a gargantuan effort from our offense to beat them if we made it to the Super Bowl.
Yeah, facing the Pats in the SB would've probably been ugly.

Aside from Crosby suddenly sucking, as you pointed out, it was both sickening & amazing watching this same group of Green Bay WRs and RBs fumble the ball away and drop routine passes.

A completely different team showed up to play yesterday vs what the Cowboys saw last week.

Last week those SOBs were making miracle catches/plays left and right. Seemed like they had at least 5 "how the hell did he come up with that catch" plays last weekend. But against Atlanta......they're dropping balls that hit them right between the numbers and aren't making those crazy catches along the sideline.

All I could do was shake my head and laugh.
Didn't watch the game and had no desire to, but I'm guessing Simp isn't too far off on his theory of them having left it all in Dallas when they played us.

They probably just had nothing more to give this week.

If we gave Marinelli a modicum of talent, perhaps we would stand a chance against a good offense.
I wonder how much he is to blame for the lack of talent, though?

Is it completely out of his hands? Or is he telling the staff and the Jones' that he likes what he has, can work with them, etc.?

I'd like to move on from Marinelli because outside of getting some D-lineman to overachieve at times, he hasn't really done anything that some other run-of-the-mill coordinator couldn't do.

I doubt he is telling them not to get talent. Maybe he said he could work with what he had after the fact but I doubt he meant that he didn't want/need any players.

We are in this boat because the ones we drafted haven't panned out as well or are injured. It just scared me that we have to try and find a pass rush. How many years did it take us to find Ware?

We've been needing defense since we entered the 2013 season and yet we haven't gone after any real difference-makers in the front 7.

And I don't need to be reminded of Gregory or Jaylon Smith. Both of those guys were huge question marks and one of them looks like his time in the NFL is over.

We need to make a real effort to draft someone in the early rounds that can contribute and has the potential to be really good but also doesn't require us to cross our fingers and hope he pans out.

Maliek Collins was a huge hit of a 3rd round pick on the DL. 5 sacks as a rookie DT?

Are you kidding me?

It doesn't get any better than that.

Lawrence is a decent starter when available, it's just that he's unreliable due to health and off the field shit.

I'm not worried about the front office's ability to identify talent, I just worry that they will go off the reservation and start wildcatting on some picks. If they just stay the course and don't take any unnecessary risks I think we'll be fine on the DL moving forward.

Of course this assumes that improving the DL will be the primary focus of the offseason.

I agree. I just dont put much blame on Marinelli. We have been busy putting together an OLine and the risks for the dline haven't panned out. Maybe Lawrence gets healthy and we can add a DE in the first round that will take off.

Other then first round we have drafted front 7 guys. Lawrence, Gregory and Jaylon Smith were all second rounders. Throw in Collins, Tapper, Hitchens and Wilson as other first 4 round guys. So was Crawford.

I'm not a fan of Lawrence.

Injuries aside, I don't think he's really shown a whole lot. I think his ceiling is Greg Ellis, and that would be fine if we had a real pass rusher on the other side.

But I don't even think he'll even be Greg Ellis good. I think he's more like a 6 sack a season type guy and I want more than that from a starting DE.

I agree with you on this. I’m hoping we don’t make the same mistake with Lawrence that we made with Tyrone Crawford. He’s not worth that kind of money.
Honestly, even the Greg Ellis comparison’s seem a bit lofty at the moment.

His health worries me. But the guy has proven to be able to get 8 sacks. I see him as a 8-10 sack guy if healthy but they need to get his back right.

Unless Lawrence puts up about 10 sacks next year he's not getting big money. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gone after next year depending on what happens this offseason and how Tapper/Irving develop.

To be fair he did that with the benefit of Hardy on the other side who got a lot of attention from OL's.

He really didn't show much as a pass-rusher this year, injury or not.

Yeah this year was sub par all around for him. Looks to me like he needs to lose some weight which should help his back. He looked kind of fat this year. I'd rather him be in that 260 range. I think he was in the 270s this season. Missing 4 games and then the back probably didn't help with the weight.

I don't think we're with out talent on defense. It's just that outside of Lee we really don't have playmakers (especially at pass rush). Most of the guys are just "solid."

As far as marinelli, he seems to have at least some input in personnel. He was happy as shit when we took Gregory. And passing on Floyd apparently was a marinelli thing.

It's not like they send him out for bagels while they discuss what defensive players they like.

You know, that's an interesting point. He really did look overweight. Hopefully he gets lighter this off-season.
