I was taking ventriloquism/alpine skiing as an "underwater basket weaving" hyperbole, describing obscure, unpopular careers.
It is true that there are companies that offer healthcare, not everywhere though. That's the punchline, rural America needs affordable healthcare the most, my wife's mother passed because she was a small business owner that had to buy her own health insurance, and they straight up refused to pay for cancer treatment. She was flush with cash, compared to the average Mississippian, but when one day of chemo costs 20k there's nobody that can foot that bill.
That's why I don't want to hear about how all these people dying don't deserve healthcare. People who aren't covered aren't just lazy assholes, or dumb jerks following their bliss. They're frequently contributing members of society caught out in the cold. You'd be shocked how many biology majors are uninsured because they're adjuncts, interns, or working for broke ass non-profits, the same way artists do. My best friend has a BS in marine biology from Loyola, he spent 3 years working part time, making near minimum wage, at a zoo in Chicago before they offered him a full time position.
