That play was a mixture of Hyde making a great play (well prepared by better coaches) and Dez missing the block. He ran wide of Dez to undercut the pass.
Yeah, you count on Dez clearing the defender on that play. Clearly the DB had no respect Dez was actually running a route. So Dez needs to get in his way somehow.

Going to bat for McFadden seems like an odd complaint today.

Also I don't think the spike was that egregious. Maybe it wasn't the absolute best decision but you also have to execute to a fine point on these drives or you lose. I think the third down play we just got beat when we couldn't afford to get beat.
I bring up McFadden because we went empty backfield so often when Zeke went out of the game. I don't understand how you telegraph pass so often when you have a backup RB who's perfectly capable of punishing a defense when they flood the field with DBs.

The spike may have been the one single play that cost the game. You are very close to field goal range and have them on their heels with the hurry up. Why give up a down? There's still a minute left and we have one time out.

So now we spike it and have to get the first down in 2 downs. Why???

It was hugely egregious.

It felt like we believed two downs would be plenty to convert, since we had been getting yards in big chunks. I don't think it even occurred to anyone that we might get stopped on 3rd down.

It was just good preparation. When do you ever see us stack WRs? I saw it 3 times yesterday and each led to a screen.

You could argue the spike lost us the game. Yet more evidence that Garrett has no clue how to manage a game. Even after all these years.

They rode Dak hard and he bore well under pressure. He had had, what, 4 picks all year? That's really, really good. And that pick happened on what should have been a very high percentage throw. I don't know if Dak thought Beasley was going to be closer or what, but for whatever reason it happened.

Even Rodgers had a pick yesterday.
Regular season stats don't apply here when it's accumulated against lower caliber teams. That's what I've been told, so throw out the 4-INT stat.

Rodgers having a pick doesn't justify anything. Rodgers has the luxury of an 18-point lead to throw a pick. The rookie down by double digits doesn't.

therefore, if you're gonna throw the ball, go 25+ yards downfield or give it to Zeke to pick up 2 yards. INT happened on a dink and Dak play. You supporting dink and Dak now?

A QB down 18 points is more justified than a QB up 18 points, especially if you compare the plays. Dak wasn't forcing it into traffic, he got burned on a quick pass that got sniffed out, Rodgers heaved a ball down the field to no one and set the Cowboys up for a crucial TD drive.

That's fair, we came out looking Rusty, although getting burned over and over by Rodgers on substitutions has to be somewhat on Marinelli. We probably had a chance to score if we could have called a timeout before the half.

in a game lost by a last-second FG, each play counts. While I wont say we didn't run the ball enough or we got away from the run, two more Zeke rushes might've made a difference on the scoreboard with drive at the end of the half and preventing the INT.

I can't recall a single game where we complained about running the ball too much. Maybe we should try it.
I will we should have ran the ball more.

Not that crushed about this loss because I honestly thought we have been playing over our head most of the year with a rookie QB and no great pass rush.

Having said that this loss is on Garrett and Linehan who both came up short in situational play calling, the pick on 3rd and 2 and the 3 straight passes on the 15 yard line were the most glaring examples.

They were being much too cute throughout the game IMO.

A team this young needs great coaching to make a run and Garrett let them down with his clock management again, he will always be a weak link in big games if you ask me.

With all of that said I am very proud of the Rookies, they never flinched and if Rodgers does not make 2 impossible plays in the last 3 we probabaly win this game.

Not fumbling on that sack and hitting that impossible throw to Cook just makes me think it was just not the year.

If I am the Cowboys I am selling out on defense like the Broncos did, JPP is a top priority a disrupter with attitude and most of the draft will be defense.
