Even if we hold them to 10 we'd need 3 TD's. Three straight TD's to start the game while we settled for a FG after having a 1st in the red zone is killing us.

Would have been 72, the ball gets placed at the spot where it was fair caught. The D is not allowed to rush, and the kicker is allowed to take as much of a running start as he wants. There's basically no downside, the D can return the kick if it's short but because they can't rush you have 9 guys (everyone except the holder and the kicker) to go downfield and tackle a returner.
