I think they know Frederick belongs at center. Well, let's just say I hope they know Frederick belongs at center.
God I hope so. The man is your first round pick and has been excellent at center. He has been ok at guard. It seems painfully obvious he should belong at center. They have even said center is the second most important position on the O-line. Just seems so obvious to everyone that he should play center. I can't fathom that Dallas would actually think they are best off with Frederick at guard.

I don't think that they view that as a best case scenario, but if they go with the "best five" concept, he'd get displaced...mainly because the braintrust is too incompetent to assemble a decent interior OL.

It only makes sense if you are an idiot and think Phil Costa can play.

Kiffin said today he will go with different combos because of injuries... including Frederick at guard.

Whoa.

Monte is thinks he is coaching the OL now?

Yikes. Dementia is an ugly thing to witness.

Callahan: Injuries mean that all line combos are alive, including Frederick at guard, Costa at center

The Cowboys had hoped to use training camp to solidify questions along the offensive line and develop some chemistry there with rookie center Travis Frederick.

But a rash of injuries to open camp and during camp, including the latest setback with guard Ron Leary undergoing minor knee surgery, has left everything in flux.

They still hope to entice veteran guard Brian Waters off his couch in Waxahachie and join the Cowboys with a one-year contract after they return home from camp next week. But short of that, they could move Frederick to guard and play backup Phil Costa at center.

That would give them a chance to put their best five lineman on the field though it may not be the best position for Frederick.

But playing him at guard would better than going with the disappointing David Arkin to start the regular-season opener against the Giants if Leary or Nate Livings, who is also out because of minor knee surgery, aren't ready to go.

Arkin will start at guard opposite Mackenzy Bernadeau in Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals. Look for Frederick get snaps at guard during the game as well.

“We’re two guards down at that spot," offensive line coach/offensive coordinator coach Bill Callahan said. " We’ll have to see what we do going forward. We really haven’t finalized anything. I think all combinations are alive. We just haven’t settled on one. We’ll see how they respond and make our plans accordingly. We haven’t announced anything, and we’re not going to until after the game. We’ll look at some other combinations possibly or maybe just stay where we’re at. We’ll get a good evaluation.’’

Play Costa at guard then. Screw that. I'd rather have one excellent starter then two below average starters. I think Frederick at center and Arkin at guard is a better "overall" combo then Costa at center and Federick at guard. Getting the 5 best on the field assumse that these guys can basically play any position equally which just isn't true. Frederick is not that same at guard as he is at center. You are reducing his impact significantly in order to just get Costa on the field.

He can't play guard though. That's the problem.

Easy... Jerry is lying.

Morris Claiborne will be a fine CB, but an elite player, he will not be. He'd have to be Champ Bailey/Darrelle Revis/Charles Woodson/Nnamdi Asamugha to be that, and he won't be.
I'd be very hesitant saying he won't be an elite player. He has the tools to be elite.

I will say it right now.

His ceiling is Newman level.

And that is not worth what we gave up for him.

Yea but it already showed no structural damage.

I'm annoyed with him sitting out of practices for no apparent reason but our training staff does seem to be overly cautious this year considering all the injuries last year.

He will be better than Newman I think. I think he'll be at least as good as Carr is.
