Cowboys lose another DL, seek replacements

July, 30, 2013

By Calvin Watkins | ESPNDallas.com

OXNARD, Calif. -- The Cowboys lost another lineman Tuesday as coach Jason Garrett confirmed DE Cameron Sheffield will be lost for a few weeks with a groin injury.
"It's probably at least a couple of weeks," Garrett said. "He was practicing well, but we've just got to see how it is ... how it progresses."

Garrett said the team will bring in some defensive linemen Tuesday for a workout because he's concerned about the lack of depth at the position. The Cowboys have lost five defensive linemen during camp and have signed two.

According to multiple sources, the Cowboys have expressed interest in defensive end Toby Jackson, who missed the 2012 season at Central Florida because of academic issues. Jackson was eligible for the NFL's supplemental draft but wasn't selected. In 2011, Jackson had 14 tackles, three tackles for loss and one blocked punt in nine starts.

The Cowboys also have interest in defensive tackle Amobi Okoye, who played with the Chicago Bears last season.

Yea, no need to sign someone like Okoye who has actually been somewhat of a consistent professional football player for a few years, might as well sign some rookie who didn't even play last year because of academics and had a whole 3 TFL the year before.

To be fair, he was a 4 star recruit coming out of HS/JUCO so there is probably some physical ability there but the point remains.

I don't think they are interesting in bringing in anyone who can actually threaten to make the team.

And provide competition for Ratliff? GTFO here with that common sense.

The second we passed on Floyd (and made no other defensive line picks), we pretty much guaranteed d-line depth problems all year.

It was solidified when we didn't even sign a single UDFA and there were decent ones available that will make NFL teams this year.

The stupidity is astounding. Unimaginable.

Move is official. Cowboys cut Ike Igbinosun, sign Toby Jackson, one of four players to work out for the team yesterday.

---------------

Why not cut the extra deep snapper or POS safety on the roster that has no chance?
