We might have made a mistake not taking a WR in this draft. I don't know if Williams is worth a second contract.
I was hoping we would. But once we took Zeke I knew we weren't going offense on day 2. But I would've been fine with someone like Pharaoh Cooper in the 4th or best available WR in place of Dak.

I don't worry much about WR's anymore, it seems that there are strong groups of WR's coming into the league every draft because of how pass-oriented the game has become. Every year the past few years it seems you have rookie WR's come in and make immediate contributions by year 2 at the latest (Mike Evans, Hopkins, Cooper, Watkins, Beckham, Brandin Cooks, Jarvis Landry, the two guys in Jacksonville, Kelvin Benjamin, Alshon Jeffrey).

As long as we have Romo, Dez, our OL and an elite running game I'm not particularly concerned with what else we have at WR. Obviously you want to be as good as possible but we will have an elite offense as long as we have those pieces in place, almost regardless of what we have behind Dez.

And when the time comes, I'm not too worried about finding good WR's moving forward, it seems to be pretty easy the past 5ish years with how polished WR's are coming out of college.

Agreed and in all honesty this wasn't a stellar class of WRs. Pretty average. It lacked any truly dominant looking prospects in my opinion.

You have to draft them though. We've drafted no one in the first four rounds since Williams in the 3rd round of 2013 and that was the first since Dez in 2010 and he was the first since Antonio Bryant in '02.

Sure we'll take a stab at a Coale, Harris, or Street in the 5th or later, but those amount to shots in the dark. Meanwhile we never seem to tire of drafting project TE's and linebackers.

The Steelers, Seahawks, and Packers wisely keep their WR pipeline filled. Nothing makes a guy develop like competition.

I think we'd be fine with a Dez/Butler/Beasley/2nd-4th round pick at WR going into 2017 as long as Romo is still playing.
That is a terrible scenario...Butler needs to prove something before I am pegging him as the #2 WR.

Well I think the idea is that you would have a 2nd-4th round pick fighting for that job as well.

Williams has flashed now and then but he's average overall and I think he walks after this season. Butler needs to show more before he could be anointed as a #2 guy. Beasley is a decent slot guy but one good hit and he could be out of commission.

Maybe someone emerges from somewhere but I won't hold my breath.

When is the last time we have done that with a rookie WR? Even with Dez he was behind Williams and and Austin.

Terrance Williams started 8 games as a rookie and went for over 700 yards. That's probably what you'd hope for out of rookie WR drafted under similar circumstances.
