He's 35 years old. You won't get much.
Feh. We'll get a decent prospect. If a team thinks he will be a player to get them over the top they will mortgage a young player for a chance at a vet who would help them win now.

I could see the Reds, Pirates, Rangers, Yankees, Nationals, and Giants all having interest in him.

I will take the following prospects for Byrd:

Reds--Henry Rodriguez, 2B-3B
Pirates--Alen Hanson, SS
Rangers--Brett Nicholas, 1B
Yankees--Austin Aune, SS
Giants--Gary Brown, OF
Nationals--Billy Burns, OF

If the Rangers can't get a Garza deal worked out, they should turn their attention to Roberto Hernandez. Joey Gallo will get it done.

I don't think so.

There is a rumored 3 team deal with Mets, Rangers, Cubs...involving Byrd, Garza, Olt.

Good. I hope Garza goes mental again and flames out in Texas. That way the Rangers will be desperate for another starter and offer Gallo, Profar and Martin Perez for Price this winter.

Now if the Mets start making Parnell available...shit, we probably get a tidal wave of talent.

Gallo has insane power but he also has insane strikeout numbers. Be careful what you wish for.

I think he would have quite a bit more value than Byrd. Can't imagine Byrd fetching much of anything. A low level prospect or maybe a reclamation project, ie a former highly touted prospect who never really developed and the organization is giving up on them. Team just aren't going to give up any real resources for a marginal 35 year old OF, even with the solid first half numbers he put up.

Oh no! More days of rumors! #ugh RT @georgeofman: Reported Garza deal to Texas not done. Other teams remain in play.
:picard

I guess this could be a good sign because maybe the Cubs aren't thrilled with what they're getting back from Texas and another team has upped the ante a bit. Who knows. I'm just a little nervous about the whole process after the struggles to get trades worked out last July.

I compare it to Carlos Beltran. Beltran is of course the better, but the Giants knew they were not going to sign him, but they still gave up Zach Wheeler. I am not saying we are going to get a Wheeler type, but teams value bats that can propel them to the postseason.

No doubt. But the gap between Beltran and Byrd is massive. Those two players aren't even remotely comparable. Beltran has been an extremely productive, star level player for pretty his entire career. He was the kind of guy a contending team can look at and think he could be a real difference maker. I can pretty much guarantee that there isn't a front office in MLB that thinks Marlon Byrd is anything more than a decent vet depth piece to carry for the rest of the season. Does that have value? Sure, some team will probably make a play for him. I just think it's very unlikely for the Mets to get even a guy like Alen Hansen, who is one of the guys on your wish list. Good for them if they do, I just don't see it happening. JMO.

I feel sorry for Ross Wolf in this whole ordeal. When asked to pitch thus year he has delivered every. single. time. Multiple innings of ball that you would expect from an ace. Yet he kept getting passed over when the spot came available by the Lindblom experiment. Think it was three different times this season. Now that he has a spot in the rotation finally they are trying to rush a trade for Garza to pitch in his spot. The guy just can't get a break.

RT @sacbee_joed: Matt Garza (Fresno St) trade from Cubs to Rangers is "99 percent done." Teams going over medical records. 6 players in mix
FWIW.

Byrd's production though now is better than what Beltran's was the year he got dealt though. I just think you will see a team make a dumb trade to get him because they don't want to be left out.

Where the hell did this guy come from anyway? I mean, I know where he came from because I read a couple articles about him but it's kind of crazy for a 48th round pick to be so impressive. He's still really young at a lower levels of the minors but he seemed to kind of come out of nowhere and there is apparently quite a bit of buzz around him. He's at least two years away from being MLB ready (assuming he ever reaches that level). I'd rather a guy like that then Neil Ramirez.

I could see a team like the Pirates make a move for him. Reasonably priced vet bat/leader that could help them down the stretch. What they'll give for him remains to be seen but regardless of his numbers through 90 games or whatever this year teams know who Marlon Byrd is and what he's capable of doing. At no point, ever, was he capable of doing what Beltran was capable of doing.

Yeah. Not sure. Think he wasn't highly sought because of his height and weight. He took off, though. The numbers are crazy even considering that they are low A hitters.
