Cowboys cut Lawrence Vickers, their only fullback

Posted by Michael David Smith on July 12, 2013, 4:36 PM EDT

In another sign that the NFL fullback is going the way of the dodo, the Dallas Cowboys have just released the only fullback on their roster.

Lawrence Vickers, who played in all 16 games last season and started six of them, was waived on Friday afternoon.

The move suggests that the Cowboys are planning more two-tight end formations this season. Dallas drafted tight end Gavin Escobar in the second round to go along with tight end Jason Witten.

Vickers, who had back surgery this offseason, was scheduled to make $1.2 million this year. Before signing with the Cowboys last year, Vickers played one season in Houston and five seasons in Cleveland.

Another awesome FA signing. Good one Jer'!

Where's that guy who the FB when Murray had all those yards as a rookie?

You could probably sign him for some cheese and a Ritz cracker.

@toddarcher: Cowboys move to TE offense complete with FB Lawrence Vickers released. Move saves Cowboys $1.2m against cap, ups total room to around $10m

that $10M can get a heck of a lot of CBs.
