Sorry, Ed. I will get the Mets in the next round for you.
Don't count the Cubs out yet. There's a little symmetry at play here.

2003 Red Sox made the miracle comeback against a New York team.

Theo Epstein GM'd both teams

Cubs and Red Sox were looking to break curses that have been around for approximately a century.

I'm just throwing it out there.

Not gonna happen.

I don't know if there's a formula for coming back from 0-3, but a big difference between that Red Sox team and this Cubs team is experience. That Red Sox team had guys who had a bunch of playoff games under their belt as well as a bunch of heart ache. I think they felt like they had nothing to lose the rest of the way.

This Cubs team is really young and they look mentally defeated right now. The Mets are on a mission and it shows.

Hopefully for Cubs fans, the youngsters will learn from this experience and be better for it going forward.

Very proud of this team...Alderson had much better vision than I had. I was ready to run him and Collins out of town a couple times. There is discipline at the plate, made the defensive plays that they were supposed to, and have just done a great job developing pitchers.

Great to see Wright get this chance...suffered through some real down seasons, but he battled back from Spinal Stenosis to get there.

This feels fucking great.

Hat tip to ED...has to suck, but I think we'll be seeing each other a few more times in the playoffs.

They have to find a spot for Schwarber...poor kid is a 1B or DH. Maybe try him at 3B...Bryant can play OF.

Fuck the Braves.
Hey, I understand.

That’s just 20 years of pent up frustration from Chipper Jones’ Braves dominating the Mets and the rest of the NL East.

If I’m the Blue Jays or Royals my first pitch to Daniel Murphy would be a fastball to the rib cage.

I just hope that we don't have a run of 12 division titles in 14 years and only win one World Series. The Braves were basically the embodiment of Ron Washington.

The only series that still bothers me today is the 96 World Series. That's the one that I feel like we actually choked away a championship. The other losses don't bother me because as we all know, in baseball the best regular season team doesn't always win.

As an aside, not hating on the Mets or anything but I think the Royals are winning it all. I mentioned before that their lineup and their approach to hitting reminds me of the late 90s Yankees. It'll be interesting to see that lineup against the Mets rotation.

I know...it is fun.

The Royals are certainly built for this and have made some amazing comebacks, but our pitching right now is amazing. The Royals pitching is ok, but the Mets have the benefit of having experience against Cueto, Medlen, Volquez, Young...while most of the Royals have not seen the Mets pitching at all.

Like I said...the Royals have made some great comebacks and whatnot, but the Mets have not really needed to do that. We get the lead and keep the lead. If I take my Mets homer hat off for a minute, I'd say the Mets should be overwhelming favorites. I would rather be the underdogs, but that is reality.

Liked both the Cubs and the Mets. The cubs for the history but what's not to like about that dominating pitching staff the Mets have. The run that Murphy is on is just amazing. Congrats Carp and Smitty . I think both of us were down on our teams at the beginning but just goes to show anything can happen.

If Toronto makes it then I'm definitely rooting for the Mets. If it's Kansas City then I hope it's 7 great close games.

I would rather play Toronto, but I will take either.

It was very frustrating watching the Mets at the beginning of the year, but the initial deal for Uribe and Johnson really energized the team...then they had the Gomez/Flores saga, which thankfully did not come to fruition, and we pushed the team over the top with the Cespedes deal. I liked Fulmer, but Cespedes changed the entire team offensively.

KC plays NL baseball and I think that would make for a fun series.

While I am disappointed in the way the Cubs played in that series I am pleased about the kind of season they had and optimistic about the future.

I am happy for you and all the other Mets fans. That team is really good and playing extremely well right now. Crazy good pitching, good D, good enough hitting...firing on all cylinders. They built the team in a very smart way and they are set up to be contenders for years to come. I'll be pulling for them as the NL reps in the World Series.

Daniel Murphy though...WTF???!!! The guy is a solid player and all but you gotta be shitting me. Most teams that make it to the World Series have a guy or two that for whatever reason plays way above his head in the postseason and the Mets have that guy in Murphy this year. Unreal.

Cubs fans have to hang onto the "Wait 'til next year!" rallying cry yet again but at least this time there truly is reason to believe that next year could be the year.

Until then, go Mets.*

*This feeling of goodwill towards the Mets expires at the conclusion of the 2015 World Series. They can go fuck themselves in 2016.
