500 dollars a month, plenty?

I call bullshit and how far are these places away from the job, do you factor in travel cost?

I live in one of the lowest cost of living staes in the U.S. and there are not plenty of apartments at that cost.
:lol

Try Missouri, Iowa or any of the other middle America states. My guess is you haven't ventured out into many smaller cities if you think that's true. All of those smaller cities by the way, have Walmart's.

This is why minimum wage should be indexed to cost of living, because in Seattle you probably need at least 2K a month to survive.

Who said anything about removing all government laws? If you knew anything about economic's the policies with regards to anti trust are what have changed everything since the Rockefeller days and would prevent any such thing from happening. You do know we didn't have a federal minimum wage until the 1930's?
If you look at what's been going on in the last 20 years, eroding anti-trust is a lot of the problem. We're creating monopolies and near monopolies with bailouts, subsidies, regulations that abuse and extend patent and copyright law until farmers can't grow food without paying Monsanto and you can't legally work on your own car. America has gotten to be a damned expensive place to live thanks to a lot of those things and wages aren't keeping up.

I don't think a minimum wage is going to be this cure. But saying people should live cheaper as the things that literally keep us alive have the price inflated beyond reason isn't going to win any votes for your party. Right now you have the world's biggest asshole and a crazy old socialist attracting most of the nation's attention because inside-the-beltway good old boy corporatism isn't getting it done for the average voter.

Still way more than half your income if you are working part time like most WalMart employees.

No, if you live in Seattle and don't make enough money to live in Seattle then move the hell away. It's not rocket science. It's stupid people.

Just walk out of town and hitchhike somewhere. You'll be sure to get a job when you get there. :lol

Why are they working only one part time job? The idea of a part time job is that you have time to get a second job (Or get your education and get a better job). Now if you tell me it's because there aren't enough jobs to go around then you may be right. But that's because our economy is being stifled by things like the minimum wage, over regulation and general government inefficiency.

When I was working part time at IHOP when I was in High School, my schedule changed every week and I didn't find out what it was until the Friday before. How the hell are you supposed to get a second job when both jobs are going to expect you to be available 24/7?

Or get a $50.00 bus ticket to basically anywhere. Mass transit does still exist.
Ever tried to apply for a job with no address and no phone number? It's pretty awesome. "Yeah, if you want to get back to me, I'll be living under a bridge downtown by the railroad tracks, if the cops haven't shot me yet."

No it's because the dumbass general public thinks the solution to having more middle class is for the government to mandate to employers that they need to pay people more money. Like the McDonalds workers demanding a $15.00 per hour salary. All you do by artificially increasing wages is reduce the number of jobs available. It's also the lazy people who will probably then take the $15.00 an hour job and ask to work less hours so that they can still remain eligible for government assistance.

The reason Walmart pays the majority of their employees more then the minimum wage is because that's what the employee is actually worth to them. If you want those wages to go even higher you need to increase the demand for employees. AKA help the economy create more jobs, not eliminate the low paying ones.

I worked two jobs in college. I worked at a bank during the day and a pub during the night. I simply gave the pub a copy of my bank work schedule when I got it. Really wasn't difficult at all.

Have you never applied for a job in a city different then the one you live? It's not difficult at all and the majority of people in the United States do it.

You know what the Republicans don't have? A competing plan. Mitt Romney was a guy who became incredibly wealthy by shipping American jobs overseas and instead of running on a platform of creating an environment to attract those jobs back to the USA, he said only 47% of the country paid taxes and thus implied by that lie that the majority of Americans were worthless and essentially said he was there to help his CEO buddies get more bailouts and export more jobs.

That's the most recent face of the Republican Party in the minds of most Americans and now they're putting up another out of touch billionaire as their guy.

Sorry, not impressed.

Yeah I wish I had some benevolent God father or rich uncle looking after me when I was on my own. I didn't but I found a way to get on my own 2 feet and make my way into society. I think I was too busy trying to make things happen rather than sit around and feel sorry for myself.

Not when I had to spend 100 bucks on bus tickets just to go to the interview. I had a car. That thing you said poor people shouldn't have. Meanwhile you are advocating that they move to towns without public transit.

How much did college tuition cost when you went through it? A buck fifty? Come on. Back when you were on your own a single income family could afford a house and a car. But it's all the same now as it was back then. Sure thing. Excuse me while I go buy a new car for 2500 and a house for 5 grand.

It's relative. Costs are and have always been a struggle for most people. Do you really think life got tough the day you were born?

A traditional college education is so overrated now. Back in the day, you had to have the paper.

Now you can piece JuCo and online together and get the stupid degree.

Hell, I don't even pay attention to education pieces on a resume anymore.

Ah, ooooh, University of Phoenix....nice touch.

It is expensive, but if I am a kid looking for further education, no effing way I mortgage my future credit and finances to attend a traditional 4-year.

Hell, it was a lot easier when I was born than it is now. It's a lot easier now than it's going to be if people like you and CRock get their way. Problem is, I think it's crackpots like Bernie Sanders that are going to get their way and that's just as bad.
