Sad to hear about Malone passing away.

The crazy thing is he was just at the Basketball Hall of Fame events that were going on the past few days. Several people commented on how they were just with him yesterday and that he looked healthy and was in great spirits. Then we find out he suddenly passed away less than 24 hours later.

CSB - I used to go to the sane barber shop as his son when I was in high school.

When we moved from DFW to Houston, we moved to a suburb called Friendswood. They have two high schools and he went to Friendswood high and I went to Clear Brook.

At 17, he used to roll up to the shop in his own Mercedes.

He was like a celebrity of sorts, but he didn't have even an ounce of the talent his dad did.

Bennett bought out by T-Wolves, to sign with Portland?

Anthony Bennett is hoping to get out of his contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves so that he can have a fresh start elsewhere.
© Jesse Johnson/USA TODAY Sports Anthony Bennett is hoping to get out of his contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves so that he can have a fresh start elsewhere.
The Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday reached a buyout agreement with former No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett.

Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reports that Bennett will soon be placed on waivers. The 22-year-old, who looked like a total bust in his first two NBA seasons, is expected to clear waivers and be free to sign with any team that is interested in him.

According to Charania, the Portland Trail Blazers are an early favorite to sign Bennett.

The T-Wolves tried to trade Bennett over the summer, and it comes as no surprise that there was no interest in him at a $5.8 million price tag. Bennett was so unproductive after the Cleveland Cavaliers reached for him in 2013 that his 19-point game was mocked with a pretty funny meme.

Perhaps a fresh start will do the former UNLV star some good.

Apparently we're supposed to wear these new uniforms in 18 games this year.

Simp, care to defend your boy?

Excerpts from a Chicago Tribune article:

Media days typically include talk of change and championships, particularly for a team the front office kept intact to contend for an NBA title. Instead, Chicago heard loudest from one of its most enigmatic athletes ever. Rose came across as a tone-deaf millionaire worried about feeding his family with his next big payday still two years away.

Longer hair and a thin beard gave Rose a slightly different look. Unfortunately, he sounded the same. There isn't an NBA defender that gives Rose more trouble than a microphone.

For the record, Rose brought up the topic of 2017 free agency himself, unsolicited, answering a question about whether he had moved on mentally since an ex-girlfriend filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles alleging he and two friends sexually assaulted her.

"I'm trying to prepare myself and my family," Rose said, referring to NBA salary-cap increases beginning in 2016-17. "It's all for my son, even though we're comfortable. You talk about 'X' amount of dollars, it raised everybody's eyebrows. There's nothing wrong with being overprepared."

If he doesn't prove he can stay on the floor and still be a 20 ppg scorer with a 42-45% FG, he's not going to see as much money as he's expecting in 2017.

Scratch that. The Knicks would gladly pony up a lucrative deal just to have another "name" player take the floor in a Knick uniform. Health and actual productivity be damned. If the player has a little star power they're all in.

Mavericks likely without Wes Matthews until Christmas
Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said on media day that Wes Matthews would miss the season opener and likely could be out until Christmas, though there is no definite time table.

Rose has a problem in his head.

When he first came into the league he would basically die on the court, I think tearing his ACL after pushing to come back from injuries throughout the 2011-12 season has turned him into a complete nutcase. Now all he talks about is being 100%, not caring what anybody else thinks in terms of when he comes back from injuries, worrying about being able to walk at his son's graduation 20 years from now, and this new thing where the day before training camp starts he's sitting there babbling on about the potential money he can make, "for his son", as a free agent 2 years down the line when he's been paid upwards of 60 million by the Bulls over the last few years for barely playing.

This isn't even getting into the fact that he admitted to having group sex with his ex-girlfriend/sidepiece/whatever and several of his male friends. Lord even knows why this guy feels the need to share girls and engage in group sex with a bunch of dudes, no matter how close they are, but what the F ever.

The guy is just weird as fuck. I overlooked it when he was 19-23ish (and playing dominant basketball), brushing it off as immaturity and the fact that he just doesn't seem like a generally intelligent person, but the guy is now 26 going on 27 and it seems like he has lived his entire life inside a bubble. It's like he's lived his entire life doing nothing but playing basketball and being completely shielded from the world by a co-dependent group of hanger-ons consisting of his brothers and a few childhood friends. It seems like he's incapable of being his own man and forming/acting on his own independent thoughts.

Listening to the radio at work yesterday on 3 different shows the hosts/analysts made similar comments. They basically said that he's not an intelligent person. They weren't doing the Cowherd thing where he throws "hot takes" out just to rile people up and get a reaction. These were just casual discussions on the latest Rose issues, and each of them came to the conclusion that he's just not a very bright man. They weren't trying to be mean spirited. They were just calling it how they saw it.

I'm watching the Sixers and Wizards on NBATV....Okafor looks very good on the offensive end. He's 6/7 shooting so far.

Would be nice if the Sixers actually tried to win this year so we can gauge how good the players are.

Sources: NBA to likely investigate Derek Fisher-Matt Barnes confrontation
By Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski
Yahoo Sports

New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher and Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes had a physical confrontation on Saturday night in Los Angeles, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Fisher had traveled to California on Saturday to visit his children and was visiting the house that Barnes shared with his estranged wife, Gloria Govan, the former star of the "Basketball Wives LA" reality show, sources said.

Barnes, who had concluded Grizzlies training camp in Santa Barbara, arrived at the house and a physical confrontation ensued on Saturday night, sources said. Barnes has known for "over a month" that Fisher is engaged in a relationship with his estranged wife, a source close to him told Yahoo Sports.
The New York Post first reported the altercation.

Barnes, 35, told friends that two people at the house – including a relative of his estranged wife – interceded on Fisher's behalf, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Barnes found Fisher, 41, in the backyard with Gloria and family members, and the altercation escalated from there, into the kitchen and then the home's front room, one witness said.

Fisher filed for divorce from his wife in March.

Fisher is considering legal action for the incident, sources said, but had not yet filed any charges.

The Knicks, Grizzlies and NBA security have been made aware of the incident and are expected to soon start working together on a probe of Saturday night's events. A significant part of the NBA's security department is overseas working closely on the league's preseason games in Europe, sources told Yahoo Sports.

"We are aware and currently gathering information regarding today's report involving Matt Barnes," the Grizzlies said in a statement.

Barnes had been with the Grizzlies at training camp in Santa Barbara, and Fisher had flown to Los Angeles on a Knicks off day over the weekend. Fisher missed the Knicks practice on Monday for what the team termed "a personal matter," but sources said that his failure to return to New York had to do with a malfunction on a private jet.

Fisher and Barnes had been friends and were teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2010-12.

The Grizzlies and Knicks play Jan. 16 in Memphis and Feb. 5 in New York.

I think we are a year away from that.
