I guess your definition of keeping a season afloat is different then mine. When someone says that a QB can keep our season afloat I view it from the standpoint of if he had to start tomorrow would he be able to get us to Romo with a good chance of the playoffs still. Winning 2 games for example while Romo is out isn't keeping the season afloat. It's basically doing what a walking corpse could do.
I said the team was trying to keep the season afloat. Not that Cassel would come in and do it. I've stated numerous times that I think he'll be a backup to Weeden and hopefully won't have to play. Your retarded word twisting lawyer games are getting boring.

Oh, and a walking corpse could come in and win 2 games, eh? :lol

Because coaches always feel a need to have a veteran QB on the roster. I think that's dumb, but it's true. They basically brought him back as a mentor of sorts to the younger better players.
And paid him 2million that's not extending charity to some hanger on.

I get it you think Cassel stinks I don't, but even so I think a 5th is worth the risk.

And just for the record last year he was 57% 3 TD's 4 int's in 3 games with a 65 passer rating.

In 2013 he was 60% 11 TD's 9 int's in 9 games with a 81 passer rating.

So not remarkable but certainly not terrible either.

With all the lamentation of who we could have picked with that lost 5th rounder (~sob~), here's another "could have".

Danny Coale, a 5th round pick, traded for Matt Cassel and Jay Ratliff, a 7th round pick.

See? It can be skewed whichever way you need to fit your agenda. Doesn't make either of them any less retarded.

A first round pick could be Trent Richardson. Might as well trade them all away... dur

It's not even just insurance in case Weeden gets hurts, it's also insurance in case Weeden just flat out sucks and looks to be costing us a game we should win.

You elevate Moore or sign some schlub like Ponder than you are saying Weeden is our starter no matter what. Cassel has enough skins on the wall that if Weeden blows, you can replace him mid-game with someone capable of getting the O on the right track and pulling the game out.

I'm not entirely convinced Weeden isn't the one who is released when Romo returns.

Shooting holes in your own argument is bad business, Matlock.
I get that you're intentionally being dense to try and be annoying but it doesn't take rocket science to know there is more talent available in the fifth round then the seventh. Talent that is worth something. And likely worth more then a QB we could have had for free a few weeks ago.

It's entirely likely Cassel and the Bills already knew they would resign him, stop acting like he was on the street for weeks.

I'm the one being intentionally dense, yet you're the one bringing stupid shit like trading away your first rounder because he might be Trent Richardson?

Please. Tell us more.

As I have already said if the organization was dissatisfied with Weeden that would have been dealt with before the season started.. Cassell is only a circumstantial acquisition because Romo went down.

Weeden is a cheap option to have as your backup, but not ideal. But since the FO felt Romo would go the entire season, they rolled the dice. Now with him missing half the year, they aren't stupid enough to think Weeden is the answer. If he was, Kellen Moore would be our permanent backup.

Yes, its called sarcasm. It was in response to yet another post by you suggesting that there is no difference between a seventh round pick and a fifth round pick. But I'm sure you'll just play dumb and claim words are being put in your mouth.

If Weeden isn't the answer I fail to see how Cassel learning on the fly could be the answer. I'll just keep my fingers crossed on Weeden. I'd be more then happy to throw away a fifth round pick if it means Weeden plays well.

Show me were I suggested there is no difference between a seventh round pick and a fifth. I certainly don't remember saying that, or even implying it.

But it is funny that you get to hide behind the sarcasm shield, but I'm being intentionally dense. :rolleyes

Cassel won't be learning on the fly. Weeden will get a couple of weeks to get the job done. Moore is coming up to be his backup while Cassel gets acclimated with the playbook. Then when he's ready to be active, Weeden will be on a lease.

He worked under Norv last year, there should be similarities.

All conjecture. What is real is that Weeden was the organization's choice for backup going into the season. What is also real is that but for Romo going down nothing was in the works regarding the QB position or there would not have been a scramble it would have already been ascertained. The Cassell acquisition is what I stated a circumstantial move. Granted something could evolve from this point but it isn't something that is a result of prior dissatisfaction with Weeden.

What if Weeden throws six picks against Atlanta? Do you think they won't be tempted to go to Cassell?
