Yeah I can just see all of the bitching and moaning going on during the 2017 draft about the one that got away.:lol
Maybe not but I bet you have Jerry wheeling and dealing because he wants more picks.

What will we regret?

Passing on Ponder?

I can understand not liking what we gave up but you are acting like Cassel is going to single handedly ruin our season.
No I think Cassel will have zero impact on the team. What we will regret is not having a fifth round pick and getting zero impact in return for it. It's the throwing away of a fifth that bothers me.

And if Weeden goes out of a winnable game and Cassel gets it done he will be worth it. Like him or not, he's got the potential for winning a game more than Kellen Moore, Showers or whatever shit is on the FA market.

Yep. I think the team, and rightly so, sees that they can compete with anyone if healthy. They are making sure the seasondoesn't collapse before they can get everyone back . They certainly have a shot if they can stay afloat for the next 2 months.

Agreed. Usually, I laugh at Jerruh's attitude that the team can compete at a high level despite situations like this but this D has given me confidence over the last 2 weeks. Just have to tread water with whatever QB is back there and let Romo, Dez, Gregory and Hardy come back for the home stretch with a lot of winnable games.

Don't you realize we could have got a Devin Street with that 5th rounder? He's a STARTER!!

Sure or Orlando Scandrick, Ryan Russel, Joseph Randle. Those are the recent fifth rounders that I can think of anyway. And yes I'll take any of them over a guy we could have signed off the street 2 weeks ago.

Apart from Scandrick, any of those guys can be found on the NFL scrap heap. For a fifth round pick, I'll gladly take trying to keep a promising season afloat over the all world talents of Ryan Russell, Joseph Randle, and Devin Street.

This is how I look at it as well. It's insurance. If Weeden's play is abysmal or he get hurt, we now have solid option to turn to in order to hopefully keep the season on track.

Why do you think Cassel can keep this season afloat? You clearly think he is still capable of being a .500 QB.

You have been saying that the last couple of years and it has not happened.

At the end of the day we are talking about a 5th round pick 2 years from now it's nothing to be getting up in arms about.

Well Buffalo thought enough to bring him back and he has not been out of a job lately.

So what exactly are you so upset about the 5th round pick or not picking up guys who can't find a job?

Your opinion is that Cassel is worthless as a QB but there is nothing you can point to to say there were much better options, his overall numbers and wins tops anybody else available.

He looked like the worst of the 3 QBs in Bills camp. They thought so highly of him that they cut him only a couple weeks ago, basically giving everyone in the NFL a chance to have him if they want him. So yeah, they thought he was crap basically. I don't care what Cassel did 8 years ago. Hell Brad Johnson was a superbowl QB at one point but when a guy is done he is done. Cassel by all reports has absolutely looked done.

I think the reason the Cowboys brought him in was exactly what you pointed to though. They looked at Cassel's resume and thought he was once good maybe he will be good again. Just like they thought with Brad Johnson.

First, I've never said I think he can be a .500 QB. No need to make things up. I've said all along that he'll be Weeden's backup. Why do I support picking him up? Because I think he can play well enough in a conservative game plan as to not hurt us. I'm not saying he'll win games for us if pressed into playing. Only that I don't think he'll lose them for us. I don't think he'd panic and throw the ball up for grabs. If he plays, that means we'd be on our 3rd QB. And I believe he has a better chance of doing that for us than anybody else that was available for a 5th round draft choice or less.

And if he can do that, I think that is well worth a 5th round draft pick. If he doesn't play a down, I'm still fine with the trade. Knowing if disaster strikes and we lose a 2nd QB, that we could play him instead of somebody like Christian Ponder or Josh Johnson...? Yeah. More than fine with it.

They cut him to lower his cap number when he did not win the starting job and he looked so bad that they brought him back and kept 3 QB's.

If he stunk it up so much why would they still pay him 2 mill a year?

I guess your definition of keeping a season afloat is different then mine. When someone says that a QB can keep our season afloat I view it from the standpoint of if he had to start tomorrow would he be able to get us to Romo with a good chance of the playoffs still. Winning 2 games for example while Romo is out isn't keeping the season afloat. It's basically doing what a walking corpse could do.

We wasted a fifth round pick, don't really give a shit about that anymore. I just pray that we never see Cassel in a game because I think his shitty play will only remind people of another Brad Johnson. That was some of the most painful football to watch.

Because coaches always feel a need to have a veteran QB on the roster. I think that's dumb, but it's true. They basically brought him back as a mentor of sorts to the younger better players.
