An old cell phone is not a bomb. You wouldn't be able to pack enough explosives in it to amount to anything. Unless maybe, if it was Zack Morris' old phone...

The cell phone is the trigger, used to remotely detonate the IED.

Hate to break your bubble but I'm not sure the average layman plays a lot of video games. That pastime seems to be with 30 and under for the most part.
