Dan Bailey explains what happened with his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on DeMarco Murray

By Jon Machota
Staff Writer

For the first time in his career, Cowboys kicker Dan Bailey was called for a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Sunday.

Former Cowboy running back DeMarco Murray got tangled with Bailey after a 22-yard reception on the final play of the third quarter. When Bailey grabbed Murray's arm to brace himself, Murray pulled back and Bailey didn't immediately let go. Murray then tossed the ball at the chest of his former teammate.

"DeMarco is competitor," Bailey said. "We just happened to come together at the same place after he made a great play. He kind of gained a few extra yards there, I think he was just fired up. Unexpected, but it's one of those things where it happens. It's part of the game. Guys get a little carried away with the emotion of the game sometime. I'll just try not to do that again."

After the penalty was marked off, Philadelphia got the ball on Dallas' 31. The Eagles got on the board for the first time four plays later, a 46-yard Cody Parkey field goal.

Bailey said Cowboys coach Jason Garrett never said anything to him about the penalty.

"I do feel bad," Bailey said. "It's 15 yards, so obviously I don't want to make light of it. At the same time, it was kind of a surprise, I think, to everybody. I'm going to try not to put myself in that situation again."

Don't understand the grab but also don't understand the shove that Murray gave first. Dont grab him. You do a Bill Lambier flop.

Not only that but then Murray threw the football at him. Murray was being a little bitch on the sideline and honestly what he did looked far worse. But those refs were just intent on penalizing us as much as possible in that game. I guess if the Eagles weren't going to do it someone needed to try and get them back in the game.

I would guess that there was a beef between them and it so happened Bailey was the guy there for him to shove. And Bailey took offense to it and grabbed his arm.

No idea how Murray doesn't get flagged for throwing the ball at Bailey. That's far worse than anything that Dan did.

Exactly. I think he grabbed the arm to keep from falling over, should have just flopped and drawn the penalty.
