If the Detroit Lions are going to carry a third quarterback on the team's practice squad, it won't be Kellen Moore.

The team's longtime, third-string quarterback, who was waived on Saturday, has agreed to join the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. The move was confirmed by the Idaho Statesman.

Joining the Cowboys will reunite Moore with former Lions offensive coordinator Scott Linehan, who currently serves in the same role with Dallas.

Moore signed with the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2012 after a wildly successful college career at Boise State. He served as Detroit's third-string QB for the past three seasons, but was never once active on game day.

The Lions re-signed Moore to a two-year contract this offseason and gave him an opportunity to unseat Dan Orlovsky for right to backup starter Matthew Stafford, but Moore struggled this offseason before closing out the exhibition slate with a strong performance against Buffalo last week.

Dallas carries just two quarterbacks on the team's active roster -- starter Tony Romo and backup Brandon Weeden. Romo, 35, has missed at least one game three of the past five seasons.

Nearly 30 quarterbacks were released by NFL teams this weekend, with many still carrying practice squad eligibility. The Lions announced the signing of seven players to the team's 10-man practice squad Sunday afternoon, with an eighth, cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste, expected to sign Monday.

So a left handed weak armed QB for the practice squad, eh?

Does not make much sense other than he is a smart guy and does know Linehan's system.

Just never liked him personally. He has a really sally arm. I just don't think that will work in the NFL. Hopefully he found a way to strengthen his arm substantially but I doubt it.

He is a smart QB but he doesn't have the physical skills.
