How do they not just cancel this game? Last night I was watching some guys play the PC version of Family Feud on Twitch instead of this and I don't regret a thing. At least in the other games there is some anxiety over whether or not a starter will get hurt. Unless you have a young backup quarterback the 4th preseason game is just completely pointless.

I could see Lawrence and Gregory being very good, but if I'm going deep anywhere on the team it should be at DL. I'd like to find a way to keep all three of them. Especially because you have Lawrence and Gregory for cheap for 3-4 years. You could give Hardy a big deal and then cut him in 3 years when you are ready to resign the other two.

Assuming he proves worth resigning obviously.
Agreed, although Russell definitely looks like a player.

Agreed. I don't even know when the last time I've watched the 4th game. Well I've basically have only watched the third one the last several years.

The owners have to have their money I guess.

I look at the effort Malena and Johnson put in and conclude Lance Dunbar has a safety deposit box full of incriminating pictures of various Jones family members.

When has this guy ever been asked to earn anything?

It's sad, the fourth preseason game isn't even used for backups anymore. When teams are holding out their backup QB and their top 3 RBs for example it really is a waste of time.

The performance by Vaughn has to seal his fate though right? I mean we won last night but it was because of our defense and running game. Vaughn was downright awful yet again.

I guess it still helps teams who are rebuilding, and this changes so rapidly I think it works.

If there is any change at all it would be to reduce the preseason to two games and extend the regular season to 18 games. This would freak out the NFLPA, but would be pretty cool IMO.

What I'd really like to see is them do is create a developmental summer league for these players that play in the fourth preseason game. Then you could just cut the preseason down to 2 games. These young players would actually have a chance to play and develop that way. The NFL doesn't do it because they probably fear it would be a cost drain.

I actually enjoyed watching this game it was fun watching our 2nd and 3rd string d-line dominate.

It's been awhile since we had quality depth, Gardner, Coleman, Bishop and Russell would have been near starters on that 2013 team.

It would be a cost drain. The owners would likely be asked to underwrite such a league so it would then reduce their incomes and increase their costs. The alternative would be to find outside investors but then that vehicle wouldn't be very attractive because there would be no revenue stream.

I think there are ways it could be done to make money. I just don't think the NFL has put any thought into it since NFL Europe. I'd keep it in America and have teams play in non NFL cities to spread the brand even further in America.

History says that football expansion outside of the NFL hasn't been successful. If you try to keep it within the NFL it will not garner enough interest to be effective. In essence the owners would be creating an expansion expense and competing against themselves.

Not really, you would do it just like the minor league system in baseball. What you're doing is bringing your team to markets that are currently underexposed. Essentially allowing you to tap into a market of people who otherwise don't get to see their favorite NFL teams. Having the opportunity to go down the street and watch someone who represents the Dallas Cowboys, who maybe was a player they loved in college would be a big time draw. It wouldn't compete with the NFL because it's not during the same season. It would just increase the amount of revenue the NFL is bringing in and expand the brand to new untapped markets.

The leagues that have failed are the ones who attempt to compete against the NFL. Even still the CFL and Arena football seem to be doing ok.

Would you invest in one of the teams?

You could start with pro teams sharing minor league teams too maybe. Lie each NFC team splits a minor league team with an AFC team.

That's problematic because each team has different concepts they teach, not many teams share offensive and defensive philosophies and techniques.

Yeah, I enjoyed that, too. Gives us hope if we lose anyone along that line. Plus, a deeper rotation to keep everyone fresh.

By the League are you talking about the current NFL?
Yes, like I said the only way it would work well is if their is an association with the NFL teams and their players. Sort of the way NFL teams use to send selected players to NFL Europe. It would be a great place to send guys like Obada (Or whatever his name is).

I agree with this. Much like our offensive line our defensive line has undergone a massive rebuilding project very quickly. What was a huge weakness just a year or two ago is now one of the deepest positions on our team. I still dislike Hayden but other then him what's not to like about the line. We have youth and play makers all over the place.
