I'm unbelievably disappointed in the pick. It's not the player who has let me.down though. It was a pick destined for failure before we ever made it. Escobar has actually looked good during camp and preseason this year but he is going to face the problem he always faces. Playing behind Witten on the depth chart. An elite guy who never gets hurt and never let's Romo down.
He will be like Bennett who catches on somewhat as soon as he leaves Dallas. Romo just can't stop going to Witten and honestly you can't blame him.

Stephen Jones: “Spots Open” For 53-Man Roster As Preseason Finale Nears

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Cowboys just trimmed their preseason roster to a league-mandated 75 players. On Saturday they’ll make final cuts toward determining the 53-man roster for the regular season.

Executive vice president Stephen Jones says Thursday’s preseason finale against the Texans is a “big game” for players battling for jobs at the back end of the roster.

“There are spots open,” Jones said from the team’s annual Kickoff Luncheon at AT&T Stadium. “They’re competing not only against what’s here on this team but they’re competing against all the other players in the NFL right now. They know it’s not just on this team where the competition is. This game will be a big game for a lot of players that are looking for those last four or five roster spots that are on the line.

“I know they’re aware of that; I know the coaches make them aware of it. But nothing’s given to you. It should be a big deal tomorrow night.”

Like the rest of the league, the Cowboys will keep an eye on players on the waiver wire. Thirty-one other teams must trim from 75 to 53, too.

The Cowboys have worked diligently to improve their overall roster depth in recent years. When it comes to determining those final four or five roster spots, they’ll have to weigh whether their own bubble players fit the team better than players on waivers from somewhere else.

“We might be surprised when we go out there and start looking around (that) it may be harder to find upgrades more than we think it will be,” Jones said. “We’ve usually done a good job of that in terms of looking at the waiver wire and churning the bottom part of our roster. I think Jason (Garrett) is great with that. He’s not stuck (on), ‘Hey, this is our team and we’re keeping it.’ And of course Will (McClay) and our scouting staff do a tremendous job of really working the tape and working the wire and looking for upgrades.”

I actually believe this is happening. Amazing how perception can change in little more than a year.

hell yeah, it's happening. We seem to have a clue these days about roster maintenance and depth. Absolutely.

Jerry has historically been like "this is our team and we're sticking with it", and I believe you either drank the kool-aid or you weren't in the organization. The 1995 and 2009 drafts very much reflect that attitude-- seeking backups to fit into an existing "set" team.

2015 has been different.

After a 12-4 season they went after top talent in the first two rounds (though still not convinced about Jones), dipped into that backup mentality in the 3rd, but the 4th and 5th showed they were thinking about helping their team long term. Not saying Damien Wilson and Ryan Russell are obvious studs, but they are clearly developing these guys like they could come in and start if needed (ala Hitchens in 2014).

Maybe it could all be explained away given the serious need on defense. Maybe the full-court press to woo Collins and his family was just Jerry collecting another treasure because it cost little.

But somehow I think this team has bought into the churning attitude from top to bottom.

The RB position is hurting, but I feel like they feel they aren't done there either-- despite the DMac man-crush and retarded faith in Joseph Randle.
