My biggest concern really is who will split carries with Randle. I don't see anyone capable of picking up the rest of that slack and Randle isn't a 400 carry type back like Murray last year.
once the starters are in on the line you will see what Dmac can do. Remember anyone who plays with the raiders pretty much sucks, when they leave that organization there careers are usually reborn

That's the problem. Dmac played terrible last year but their other RB Murray didn't look so bad behind the same exact offensive line. I think he certainly will look better once Smith, Leary, Martin, Free and Fredbeard all get on the field together but I also think DMac has some serious flaws in his running ability.

That's no excuse for his awful YPC. The guy just isn't all that good. He has no strength, no lateral movement, no ability to read plays, and little ability to break tackles.

You know what a really bad team looks like? Look no further than Dave Campo's Cowboys. As I'm sure you know, that team went through 3 straight 5-11 seasons. Besides being awful, do you know what else those Cowboys had in common with these Raiders? They had no QB and a bad offensive line.

So to refresh everyone's memory, the following QB's started for the Cowboys in that span: Old and concussed Aikman, Randall Cunningham, Anthony Wright, Quincy Carter, Anthony Wright, Clint Stoerner, Quincy Carter, Chad Hutchinson.

In that span, especially from the 2nd half of the 2000 season onto the end of the 2002 season, the Cowboys were probably the victims of the worst QB play in the entire NFL.

And yet despite having zero help in the passing game to keep defenses honest, and despite playing behind some shit offensive line, 31, 32, and 33 year old Emmitt Smith managed to put up these numbers in that span:

2000: 1,203 yards for 4.1 YPC

2001: 1.021 yards for 3.9 YPC

2002: 975 yards for 3.8 YPC

McFadden's last 3 seasons as a Raider? No more than 707 yards, and his YPC were 3.4, 3.3, and 3.3

If an old and declining Emmitt Smith - playing under similar circumstances - can put up those numbers, then what does that say about an in-his-prime McFadden looking so poor?

My point is, if you or anyone else thinks that McFadden is going to be a good player for us because he's in Dallas and because he's going to play behind a great line, you are sorely mistaken. McFadden is an average-at-best player, and his YPC proves that.

No matter where he goes or where he plays, McFadden will never be a good NFL player, period. He simply has no instincts as a runner.

There are some who had no exprecitation from McFadden. From the day the organization named him to the team I gave my position on him and I must say he has fulfilled them right on cue. First was the (so called) injury issues then the lack of production in game conditions. Stay tuned for more of the same. He is not a running back anymore and if he has any production at all it will be on pass plays. Since Dunbar already fits this role there is really no reason to have him on the roster. I hope it gets better but I expect nothing.

well said..i want Randle to be the number 1. I do think McFadden would be a good change of pace running back tho.

I agree with your conclusion about Darren McFadden but I don't agree with the thought process of bringing in an all time great like Emmitt Smith to try and make McFadden seem worse. Emmitt is such a rare RB, of course McFadden would pale in comparison.

Yea, but this is old Emmitt playing on some awful teams, so I think the comparison is a fair one.

How about this? 2 years later, 35 year old Emmitt on a 6-10 Arizona Cardinals team ran for over 900 yards and had 3.5 YPC.

Those are still better numbers than McFadden's last 3 seasons.

I don't know that what Emmitt did or didn't do is pertinent. We all know that 3.4 yards per carry is pretty pathetic. Top rushers with equal or worse last year is Alfred Blue, Ben Tate, Toby Gerhart, Trent Richardson, Andre Ellington and Andre Williams. So basically right now McFadden is in that category of RBs. Not exactly a list of guys that should excite anyone.

Yup.

When your average is that bad, it isn't just because of your line or the team around you. Guys who are truly talented and have the ability will get their yards somehow someway.

McFadden's mediocre numbers are no coincidence.

Alfred Blue would win our RB drop in a heartbeat and not look back.

Why do you think that? The guy averaged 3.1 ypc last year. The sample size is pretty big with 169 attempts as well. I'll take Randle. He's better then that every day of the week. Even Darren McFadden's numbers from last year make his look bad.

I've watched the guy this preseason. He's pretty solid. Runs with a lot more power than McFadden.

This is the problem with preseason. People think they learn stuff about players during preseason and then the regular season hits with real defenses and teams first team starters and suddenly the player looks like shit again. Not saying Alfred Blue couldn't have a good year but McFadden played better then him last year which really is saying something. I'd take the Texans run blockers over the Raiders every day of the week last year.

Just rewatched the game and a couple of things stood out.

1. Hardy played a lot as the 3 tech and then a LDE, I am wondering if he will make the impact most think because he has looked very ordinary, he also looks heavy.

Booze do you notice a difference in his size while at Carolina and now?

2. The Linebacker play was very bad, Wilber was either blocked or slow getting to the runner, all of the big yardage plays were because of poor LB play.

3. Vaughn was bad he looked very skittish and his play never allowed us to get into a rhythm on offence, I wonder how much of that had to do with the recievers because they had trouble getting seperation.

4. The d-line dominated most of the game, Gregory, Coleman and Russell looked great and Gardner looked good as well, I think Coleman is pushing for major snaps at the 1, he needs to handle double teams better but in 1 on 1 blocking he is a handful.

5. Weems looked a lot better he had one bad play where he gave up the inside again but he at least recovered somewhate amd took his guy out of the play, he got in trouble a couple of times but unlike last week he showed an abilty to recover.

Still would be very weary of him playing major snaps against starters but he handled Brooks pretty well.

6. Collins looked ok you can see the potential but he needs work in the combo blocks he was late getting to LB's after chipping the lineman, it made it clear how good Martin is at this and how Leary is ahead of him.

As for the running game it's hard to get a read because Wentzel and Dill were so bad, they kept giving up backside pressure so there were no cutback lanes, we also are very vannilla in play calls so that contributes as well.

I like what I see from the defense I think they make a big leap forward but a lot of that is depended on the LB health especially MLB Brinkley has been a huge dissapointment it's very tellimg Wilber played ahead of him. I think he gets cut and another veteran brought in.

He played very well last year when Foster got hurt and he got full time carries. Plus he's shown to be able to play in a zone run scheme.

My opinion is based on last year not the preseason.

Yes. He looks significantly heavier. Maybe all of this about his playing tackle has him bulking up, but he looks bigger and I hate to say it slower.

He averaged 3.1 yards per carry last year. You feel good about that? Hell at least McFadden averaged 3.4.
That .3 is really a whole fuck lot of difference?

If you are looking at YPC averages and using that to grade RBs, that tells me exactly how much effort and actual thought you put into it.
