Am I the only one that sees the irony in this? It isn't self-righteous to pretend that the Cowboys staff are idiots and that you know better but it IS self-righteous to suggest that maybe you are wrong?
Just to be clear, I didn't call the coaching staff idiots. The "stupid" comment I made in the original post was directed at Jerry.

Was there a big movement to have Martin split time at RT and G after he was drafted last year?
Not really the same thing since Martin had noone in front of him and had his spot on the OL, alot of my problem is its a little disappointing for us to luck into a top 10 talent and then not have him used where he can help out right away. If he was getting reps at RT and G it just seems he would be more useful to the team this season. Now if they feel he can't mentally handle both positions I get that but it is a kind of a downer

Good Lord, this place needs some strong opinions that aren't all the same.
We have debates on here all the time about differing opinions. rather lengthy ones at that. Not sure where you are getting this from.

I think I smell a dust up in this thread that closely resembles a couple of pseudo dust ups in the past. There would come out of the blue a sudden flare up of tempers from a couple of guys that would eventually get one of them banned. All the while they were laughing at the posters reactions and eventually declared their ruse. Sound familiar to anyone?

Or maybe as a board we could send Iamtdg to a football coaching boot camp so he could come back with a rejuvenated view of all things football.
I'd be down with that. Obviously I need help with my football knowledge. Because even after watching it and religiously following the Cowboys for 30 years, I still don't know shit.

I think that all reasonable folks can agree that thinking that real football people are idiots and that we are right is pretty retarded. Especially considering a situation like Collins. Our available data is pretty slim compared to the staff's.

Does anyone really want to defend that position in real life?
I will fight you in the Luby's parking lot

I'll give my take on the Collins situation. First, let me acknowledge that I honestly don't know because I've never been to a meeting with the staff.

The focus is on that Collins hasn't had a chance at T because we haven't seen or heard about it. You've got all sorts of evaluation tools that go on during camp. It has been said that he doesn't have the footwork to perform there now. He projects better at G. They prolly took one look at him in drills and knew he wasn't capable or ready.

Just because he performed there in college is not really an indicator that all doubt has been removed that he will dominate at the next level. He seems real natural at G from what little I've seen. Maybe they want to push Leary? I'd like to see if what they are seeing in practice with the other guys can develop. I'm guessing they have more natural ability for the position and are hoping they will develop into something game worthy. Where Collins is just a raw, strong badass.

I don't really care about the now with Collins. To me it is more about down the road. Bernie is a fine backup at guard for now. If Collins sits the entire year backing up Leary, then who cares what Collins has the footwork for now. I'd rather start working on his footwork so that he can be ready a year from now. A year from now I'd rather him starting at RT with Leary at LG.
Absolutely, and this was part of my point to begin with. If his feet are an issue, and we really need help at T more than G, then bust your ass to correct the feet issue. And, the be fair to the coaches, they may be and we just don't know about it.

Or maybe the have enough time and film with Weems to think he can fix his technique issues and thats what training camp is for.

Free had some of the same problems and they got him right.

Now this next game will be huge for Weems if he does not get better I can see some things changing.
Now this I can see. If they feel they can fix Weems, then by all means give him the most work. Especially if the plans are to have Collins replace Leary long term. But, from I have seen of Weems it sure seems like he has a ways to go. Not that I'm a coach or anything.

What is really funny is that iamtdg's honor is being defended yet he is probably my best friend on the board in real life.

We've had several smack downs on the board before and had beers later.

I can't help but to like the heathen.

At what point do we really start buying into our own internet coaching skills here? Do you really believe that you are a better football decision maker than the professionals?

I really am not trying to be a smart ass.

For reals though...some days I have to just laugh. Some of yall have really bought into your own stuff.

Yeah, but you also never called me a football idiot. That really fucking hurts. I mean, you call yourself a friend, and here you are telling me I don't know shit about football. The more and more I think about it... fuck you for saying what you did.

Oh so we've gone from retarded to dumbass, have we? To be honest I would hate to be your kid growing up with you being the one teaching me football.

That wouldn't be a problem because I would immediately be pro-choice had you been my child.
