So take the high road and discuss.

Why do you think that he should be left at G? Just because the coaches say so?

That's fine, state that you trust the coaching staff.

I just don't get why you would need to call in to question another poster's football knowledge at that point.

You really sound like our old friend sbk92 in that regard. In fact, your first post in this thread even included the word "retarded". Uh oh, are you qualified to run a message board?

Why should I take the high road? Is that what you suggest the DCC be? A super highway of highroaders?

I'm suggesting that this place has had such a low level of varying opinions that people actually get offended when a new idea is suggested. Like I've introduced this weird, radical idea by suggesting that iamtdg is clueless about why Collins is not at T right now. That is the definition of groupthink.

I think I've maintained that I don't know shit about message boards. But I'm not on here talking about how everyone else has a terrible one either. Let me make it abundantly clear on that subject. I HAVE NO DAMN CLUE HOW TO RUN A MESSAGE BOARD!!!

Good Lord, this place needs some strong opinions that aren't all the same.

Maybe "taking the high road" wasn't the right way to phrase that.

Offer a differing opinion instead of saying, "you might be retarded".

That's a discussion ender and is what drove off lots of folks back in the day.

If you think people don't have different opinions on this board then I think you need to read more. On the subject of Collins getting work at RT it seems like a lot of us have a similar opinion. I welcome a different opinion but the argument that the coaches are smarter then me just seems like a cop out. Give me a real reason. Something like "Collins is only a rookie, we should have him concentrate on one position." "Collins feet are too slow to play OT"

I get it. But do you really think I'm in danger of being sbk because I went off on a rant and used the word retarded? Somebody please do a search here and figure out how many times others have used that word besides me. Are they sbk too? I'd hope we can use the overall body of work that we all have here over the last 10 years (not all of mine are proud moments) instead of one thread to worry about if now sbk if back. That seems dumb to me but if you insist carry on..

You left out an important word from my sentence.

Skid, I think everyone understands your point now. Maybe it is time to let it rest?

What should have been a discussion on Jerry's comments was hijacked when you told Iamtdg he was retarded for thinking Collins should play T and then called his football knowledge into question.

That is a discussion ender and I don't understand where you expected the thread to go from there.

Seems dumb to me, but if you insist...

Already? This is about the most passionate I've felt in a football thread in a couple of years.

So now you're an expert on passion? Look at this guy, thinks he's Don Juan all of a sudden

Don't just enter this thread diverting someone's passion from the discussion!

Shouldn't you be at lunch or something?

Do you read here? The entire flavor of this board is built upon calling people's football knowledge into question. Everyone is OK with it until it is them.

Everyday we read about how stupid the organization is. I don't think that it ever stops. It is a needed opinion but it is also the loudest one. Does that not ever get old to folks? It does to me.

I agree that we're mostly a bunch of cynical mofo's when it comes to the team.

Maybe we need to import a bunch of homers?

Or maybe as a board we could send Iamtdg to a football coaching boot camp so he could come back with a rejuvenated view of all things football.

I'm kind of with skid on the Collins issue. Coaches and front office people make mistakes all the time and aren't above being questioned, we all know that. But in this particular case, I have to assume they are very confident based on what they've seen that Collins can't play T, at least at this point.

I assumed, and I've heard some of the beat reporters suggest, that they think his feet just aren't good enough. But it could be that he's not that bright and they think learning two positions at once would be too much for him. It could be any number of things that we don't know about. But with the starter at RT out, you know it's not something they've just overlooked. They must be pretty sure that he can't do it right now. That doesn't mean he can't do it in the future, if for instance he loses a little weight and works on his footwork, or maybe once he gets more reps and learns the offense better.

I agree with with Skid that some take their opinion as gospel too much and never back them up with why.

But I also agree that saying questioning the coaches was retarded was a bit much.

As for Collins at RT I also think he should be given reps but obviously the coaches have a plan and with the work they have done so far they should get the benefit of the doubt.

I also would not be so quick to write off Weems I have seen him do some good things consistently he is not a total trainwreck, I remember when everybody was ready to run off Free for any other warm body, but as then most focused on his negative plays instead of looking at the complete body of work.

I'll give my take on the Collins situation. First, let me acknowledge that I honestly don't know because I've never been to a meeting with the staff.

The focus is on that Collins hasn't had a chance at T because we haven't seen or heard about it. You've got all sorts of evaluation tools that go on during camp. It has been said that he doesn't have the footwork to perform there now. He projects better at G. They prolly took one look at him in drills and knew he wasn't capable or ready.

Just because he performed there in college is not really an indicator that all doubt has been removed that he will dominate at the next level. He seems real natural at G from what little I've seen. Maybe they want to push Leary? I'd like to see if what they are seeing in practice with the other guys can develop. I'm guessing they have more natural ability for the position and are hoping they will develop into something game worthy. Where Collins is just a raw, strong badass.

I don't think it has anything to do with Collins feet. I think there are two reason's why the Cowboys have left Collins at guard. I think the first is that he is a rookie and they want him to be able to master one position as opposed to confusing him with a bunch of different positions. I agree with this point of view. I don't want to overwhelm Collins. I think the second part of that is the Cowboys have for some reason taken a liking to Weems. They seem to think that he is a legit player and knowing that they just signed Free to an extension they basically look at Free as set at the RT position.

This is the part I take issue with. Weems has looked god awful on the field. Not as bad as Wentzel but that isn't saying much. Free has been hurt and potentially could be the weakest starter on our offensive line. I think the position to have Collins concentrate on is RT. I wouldn't confuse him by bouncing him around. I'd put him at RT and let him learn. It's going to take time. Collins played LT in college and we all know there is a transition period for these guys swapping from one side to the other. It took Smith some time to transition to the LT spot as well. You have to be patient with it because it can pay off in the long run. When I look at Collins in the long run I think RT is best for him. RT's are just more valuable then guards and he has enough athleticism and strength to dominate at either position.

I think that all reasonable folks can agree that thinking that real football people are idiots and that we are right is pretty retarded. Especially considering a situation like Collins. Our available data is pretty slim compared to the staff's.

Does anyone really want to defend that position in real life?
