Jesus Christ, your position here is really dumb. The guy does nothing but get open, catch balls, and get first downs, and you somehow want him to be a superstar. He has a niche and he fills that niche VERY well.
Those catches could be going to a better player. With Witten, Dez, and Williams out there I firmly believe this 3rd WR should be doing major damage.

BTW...

Piccard all you want, but I think we are short-changing ourselves in favor of what's perceived as a "sure thing" in third down conversions. More passes going to Beasley means more series per drive. Good in some cases, not in others.

Again, RB problems >>>>>>>>1Technique>>Safety>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>> Beasley as 3rd WR

The only "surer" thing on 3rd down on this entire team than Beasley is Witten. It could even be argued that last year Beasley was a better option in those situations than even Witten, so what you're saying is patently false.

I know the stats. No Wr had more than 4 catches in either game. At ATT Stadium Romo hit a few passes in stride and we had a strong YAC day overall despite fewer catches (Williams leading the way), but that ended in GB. A strong running day by Murray, and we still couldn't pass.

Meanwhile #3 Davante Adams-- a rookie-- had 7-116 in that single game. You see Cole Beasley doing that in the playoffs-- even if he got to play against the Cowboys defense? With the attention Dez, Witten, and Williams draw, someone should be tearing up the opposing defense.

There were similar games, like vs Seattle. Williams again made them pay with a couple of big catches, but Beasley couldn't. Beasley might move the chains and for stretches he might even carry a decent average, but the stats don't show his inability to take over when everyone else is covered.

Beasley can improve, but IMO he lacks the pedigree to improve much.

He ranks 185 out of 200 in Yards at the Catch/reception (4.29-- including TEs and every other WR, slot or otherwise), so any yards after the catch he gains is very exaggerated. If you catch a two yard pass, then a mere three yards of YAC is 60% of your yardage.
Beasley has beat the odds for 4 years now. He is an exception to the rule. He has proven his detractors wrong and continues to increase production. Only the Ravi dude sees him as an underachieving. :art

Beasley has exceeded everyones expectations (including mine) -- for him, but I have higher hopes for the position. It's a unique opportunity to exploit a mismatch. With Beasley's contract, I wonder if Dallas even looks at the WR position in the first two days of the draft. Mistake.

Beasley caught passes on 77.1% of his passes, which was good enough for fourth in the NFL. Beasley also finished fourth in 2013 using the same criteria, catching 75% of his passes. Beasley has become one of the most reliable receivers per target since 2013 and the numbers reflect that. In 2014, Beasley finished second in WR Rating (a quarterback’s passer rating when throwing to a receiver) with a rating of 130.6, only trailing Randall Cobb. Consistently open.

What more can the guy do? He is basically the best you can hope for in a third WR in this offense.

Easy enough when per reception the ball travels to him in the air less distance than for 92.5% of the top 200 TE's and WR's-- a mere 4.26 yards. Another demonstration of how idiotic some stats are, like Beasley somehow has magic hands-- bullshit.

The only real argument to make is that Romo should probably be throwing to the guy more often.
Glad you brought it up... ask yourself why this doesn't happen?

Based on how amazing those magical hands are the offense should be based around Cole Beasley. We'd never lose a game!!!1!!

Then he would get hurt because the coverage schemes from the opponent would shift. Chances are they would double on him on occasion and deliver some double hits.

Hence, he's limited. With our QB and OL I believe our O has the potential to be held in the same regard as the Greatest Show on Turf, 90's Cowboys, 89 or 94 49ers, etc.

That makes seeing Joseph Randle as our starting RB particularly frustrating, but also the seeming acceptance that our WR corps is OK as is.

For example, the Rams' 4th string WR, Ricky Proehl, was super-effective and could play any position. Defenses had to cover the whole field with Holt, Bruce, Az-Hakim, and Faulk and all of a sudden Proehl, who used to be a starter and could fill in at any position, would come out of nowhere for a big play.

I don't dislike Beasley, I just don't want to settle.

I'm not real concerned about Randle but I am concerned about his relief. It won't be Dunbar because he will have essentially the same role as before. The McFadden decision has me very concerned however. If he is currently projected to ride the pine for all the preseason then there will not be an answer on him until the regular season starts. There won't be too many castoffs to choose from at that point. I have beat the McFadden drum since he was picked up and the scenario is playing out to a worst case proposition. I fear.

Don't sweat it, he was and still is a longshot which is why he could be had for cheap relatively late in the FA period. I have nothing against anyone who hoped he could turn it around. Hell I still have hope that he can.

The problem was Dallas only hedged their bets with Joseph Randle and they kept Ryan Williams way too long and re-signed him prematurely. I don't care about the money, but because they signed him I feel like they believed they could more easily ignore RB in the draft.

I have nothing against McFadden or Randle-- they are what they are.

It's the losers in our GM office who fail to recognize the historic chance they have right now with the OL and Romo and the run-first identity that succeeded so well last year.

Maybe I phrased it wrong but I have been in panic mode since the McFadden acquisition.. And I pretty much felt things would play out like they are.

Did I just see Az Hakim spoken about like he was some kind of complete WR?

You did read the part about how the QB rating when the QB throws the ball to Beasley is second only to Randall Cobb right? Who gives a shit if it's a short pass that he is catching and turning into a good gain. Clearly he is doing more then just catching 4 yard passes and falling down otherwise QBs wouldn't have such a high QB rating throwing to him.

This is some off the wall shit. The guy is insanely productive in his role. Basically the most productive slot WR in the NFL when the ball is thrown his direction. But hey, he can't be Dez Bryant or something like that.
