It depends how the 2016 turnout looks. The house has been really damn conservative forever and conservatives hate welfare with a passion.
I don't think conservatives hate welfare or the idea of welfare. What most detest is the abuse of the programs.

No they hate welfare. Or rather they have an archetype of a "typical welfare recipient" in their head, and hate them. They make excuses for it, but there's a reason welfare recipients are treated like convicts in this country.

We apparently travel with different conservative crowds. I have a lot of conservative friends and they don't have that mindset.

These are the conservative opinions I tend to get unsolicited, the fact that they're the types to be so vocal might play into it.

I know for me personally I think the welfare system is necessary because it is a common conduit for society to assist the needy. What rankles me is the way some assistance laws are written that allows some to circumvent the system and take from the resources that was never intended for them. That is more the fault of those who write the laws but refuse to adjust them because they will benefit as well from the votes of the undeserving. This is a reality and gets the ire of folks who think like me.

Frankly I believe misappropriation favors the administrators more than the applicants. Not saying that abuse doesn't happen, but I think society has been persecuting the needy (often adding to the expense of welfare in the process) in pursuit of a relatively small percentage of cheats.

Is there any way you see him actually being elected president?

I thought the same for getting the R nomination, but I think he might get it just as a sign of protest.

He is bothering both parties currently. It's early but it's obvious that he is getting the cronies of the Republican party worked up. Meanwhile the Democrats are squirming because their strategy was tuned to shoot down Jeb Bush but he isn't the front runner so they can't loose the cannons yet. Who knows how this will play out.

So your answer to my question is?

And the Dems are begging for Trump to be nominated it would be a cakewalk of epic proportion.

No you completely missed the mark. The dems thought Bush would be in the lead and they are geared to go after him. Trump has that all in the air. They aren't geared to go after him. Trump is getting the extremist coming out of the woodwork like the ones who go after Hillary.

They aren't geared to go after him because him winning the primary is their wet dream.

But it isn't the Dem party that is having coniptions with Trumps. It's the media and Democratic persuaded followers. The party hasn't released anything attacking anyone yet.

Exactly, for the reason mentioned multiple times. They would love to see him win, so why throw out attacks that might hurt him?
