I saw that article yesterday. As mentioned in the article, this have never been an issue in the NBA. I suppose they just want to be forward thinking in order to avoid situations like the one the NFL had a few years back where a 7-9 Seattle team made the playoffs.

I do like the aspect of playoff seeding based on W-L record rather than automatically handing Division winners top 4 seeds. I'm all for that.

I wish the NFL would do it.

You do know that happened last year right? Panthers got in with a 7-8-1 record.

Nope. I'd completely forgot about that.
Yeah I definitely was on the side of the argument that didn't think the Panther deserved a spot in the playoffs. It is part of the problem with the 4 team division setup that the NFL currently has.

I think if you win your division you should get in the playoffs. Otherwise, what are the point of divisions? But winning the division shouldn't have any effect on seeding. That should be based on win\loss, head-to-head, etc.

I agree with this.

I agree, but I still think it's a travesty when a team that can't even get to .500 makes the playoffs. In no way were the Panthers deserving of a playoff spot. They are a shitty team in a shitty division that made the playoffs because everyone else in their division stunk even worse. It didn't impact the Cowboys but if I were the Eagles sitting at 10-6 at home I probably would have been pissed. It's one of the flaws of having Divisions made up of only 4 teams.

I'm sure it's basically the core of the current team+David Robinson and George Gervin.

An excellent team for sure, but that doesn't beat a team with Jordan, Pippen, Rodman and Gilmore, along with Rose. It's all kind of nonsensical though because everybody is going to look at it differently. Do you judge the players based off just a prime season or two or their entire body of work?

How about a guy like Rodman who played for the Spurs and Bulls? Do you take only his Spurs work into account if you include him on the Spurs, or his entire body of work? Do you take just his prime year with the Bulls if you include him on the Bulls or his whole body of work?

Pretty pointless exercise all in all but whatever.
I'd only take into account the years a player was actually with the team. As in, you don't get Pistons Rodman, just the version that played for the Bulls.

Robinson, Duncan, Parker, Gervin, Bowen, Leonard, Ginobili (8th spot is Elliot but saving a spot for Aldridge here)

All-Bulls team has better perimeter scoring, obviously, but the Spurs have good perimeter defense and better big men with some ability to slash to the basket with Parker and Ginobili.

That's a pretty weak all time team, I think the Rodman bulls team alone could take them or at leat win 3 out of 7.

Agreed with both points.

I have been watching San Antonio since the Gervin days and the fact you picked Bowen over Larry Kennon and James Silas tells a lot.
I am not that old and I don't research Basketball history like I do football. I picked Bowen because his perimeter defense was a big part of the Spurs mostly coming out on top over those Suns teams, as well as his performances guarding Kobe, Dirk, LeBron, pretty much any team's top scorer during their post Robinson championships. Considering how well he defended Kobe and LeBron, I think he could do pretty well on Jordan or at least Pippen.

Now that I've looked up Silas, I like that addition better since most of the big men we've had since David retired have been placeholders.

I wonder if Nike will match the offer like they did with KD.

Last year Under Armour tried to sign Durant to a $280 million deal but Nike stepped up with a 10 year $300 million deal to retain KD.

So it looks like Nike has decided to allow Harden to depart to Adidas.

As an aside, I saw that the schedule is supposed to be released tomorrow.

Some key games have already been announced.

OKC vs. Spurs on opening night.

Christmas games:

LAC vs. LAL
CHI vs. OKC
GSW vs. CLE
NOP vs. MIA

Dwight Howard won't face charges for gun in bag at Houston airport

Calvin Watkins, ESPN Staff Writer

HOUSTON -- Rockets center Dwight Howard was detained at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Friday for having a handgun in his carry-on bag.

Houston Police Department spokesperson Kese Smith said Wednesday that Howard was stopped at Terminal E at 7 a.m. when Transportation Security Administration officials discovered a pistol in the bottom of a carry-on bag.

Howard told officials the gun was his, and after being detained by law enforcement officials he was allowed to give the handgun to an associate.

The Houston District Attorney's office was contacted after Howard was detained and declined to press any criminal charges against him.

Howard was allowed to board a later flight.

The Rockets released a statement saying the team was aware of the incident and still gathering information. Howard couldn't be reached.

Smith said guns are periodically found at both of Houston's main airports, Bush and William P. Hobby -- 77 were discovered in the past year -- and that few charges are filed or arrests made.

In Texas, a person can carry a concealed handgun with the proper license.

A law passed this year will allow those in Texas with a conceal-carry license to openly carry starting Jan. 1, 2016.
