Well if you cherry pick numbers you can have any outcome you desire.
QB value is largely determined by playoff success. Since that's the whole point of this whole thing.

Aikman won 3 SBs due to lights out playoff performances.

Romo's (admittedly few) playoff performances have been mostly below average compared to his body of regular season work.

Therefore Aikman is better than Romo due to the wide disparity in level of play in the playoffs.

To put this another way Aikman is better than Peyton Manning.

Well I'm not talking QB value. I am saying comparative performance records favors Romo.

I agree that there are a lot of things Romo can do that Aikman couldn't.

He's had to be the workhorse of this era of Cowboys. Which is something Aikman was never forced to do.

His comeback statistics are eye popping too. It says a lot when you've comeback more than Staubach.

Love Tony, think we're incredibly fortunate to have him and always have. But he's not better than Staubach or Aikman.
Staubach and Aikman had many better teams than Tony did.

I can only imagine what Tony would do with a Tony Dorsett or Emmitt Smith, for just one simple example of this crazy disparity in talent let alone the Harvey's, Randy's, Too Tall's, Woodson's, Haley's, etc.

The only guy Romo's played with to even get HOF consideration is Witten, and maybe one day Dez. Don't even start with the coaching. That's a total laugher.

Defense has been a big problem too. 6 of his 9 years as starter we fielded shameful defenses.
I think that was partially by design though.

There always has been a tendency by Jones to overrate Romo and think he can do it all himself.

If you mean overall team talent and success, I agree. But offensively, this team is absolutely loaded. There's Pro Bowl talent at literally every single position, or at least there was last year.

Comparison of playoff games is a two way street as well. I would say that Aikman in his prime would have beaten Seattle in '06 (easily, I might add), Giants in '07, and maybe GB last year. The only sure loss was to Minnnesota because Free would have gotten Troy killed.

that's part of it. I think we just sucked so bad at everything to do with defense for the last 10 years.

Miscues include. Switch to the 3-4.
Zimmer's retention after switching to the 3-4,
Jay Ratliff at NT.
Generally undersized defensive line.
Brady James and Akin Ayodele pencilled in as starters.
Bobby Carpenter
Wade Philips croney hired at DC.
Not hiring Dom Capers
Ware expected to be the only pass rusher
Unwillingness to invest draft picks in the defensive line after 2006
Mike Jenkins
Rob Ryan
Morris Claiborne
Monte Kiffin
No true nose tackle

It was Colombo more than Free. But yeah everyone was horrendous that day.

Hard to say if Aikman would have beaten Green Bay. Romo played well too.

No way Aikman makes it to the playoffs in 06 though. He would have been murdered like Bledsoe.

Sure would have. Aikman moved like an arthritic stork. All you had to do was get him to back pedal and he neutralized.

Aikman wasn't the greatest athlete, but he was 3x the athlete Bledsoe was when both were in their primes. I think Aikman could have had a real nice season that year, especially with Owens and Glenn to throw to.

He was a statue that needed great blocking and a great running game or else he was going to get beat up and injured. Look at his first three seasons in the league for what Aikman looked like without elite level help.

Just cause he got elite level help doesn't mean he needed it. Most QBs would have suffered on that shit team he started with.

Everyone is talking about how Tony would do with those 90's teams. A better hypothesis would be how Troy would do with the crap that has surrounded Romo for the past 7 years or so.

The ONLY reason this team went 8-8 during Garrett's first three years is because of Romo. Otherwise, they go in the toilet.

As much as I like Aikman, I don't see him carrying this team the way Romo has had to.
