Report: Cowboys place LB Keith Rivers on reserve/retired list
The Dallas Cowboys have placed linebacker Keith Rivers on the reserve/retired list, per ESPN's Todd Archer.
The Cowboys still retain Rivers' rights if he chooses to return to action. The Cowboys signed Rivers to a one-year, $825K deal at start of the offseason. Rivers was expected to compete for the backup outside linebacker spot.
Moving forward, the Cowboys are two less linebackers now with ILB Rolando McClain on the preseason active/PUP list. They have made several moves at the linebacker position this offseason with the additions of Andrew Gachkar, Jasper Brinkley, and Justin Jackson. Anthony Hitchens should solidify the SAM position with Kyle Wilber also competing for the backup.
Placing Rivers on the reserve/retired list opens up a roster spot which the Cowboys are expected to fill.
