9 dead in ‘hate crime’ shooting at historic African American church in Charleston

I think internet echo chamber culture combined with the death of the American family has resulted in a lot of weird angry (mostly white) dudes coming of age.

Our church has some individuals who are appointed as security. The are armed. They are made up of police and similiar employeed indiviuals. It's a sad commentary but churches have been a targeted organization for the deranged.

It's a shame schools don't have the same common sense. It would cost a tenth of the groundskeeping budget for most large schools to convert the schoolbus drivers (who already have to pass the same background check as security guards) into armed security and pay them all day (with the overtime deferred onto their summer pay) but they won't do it because it's too important to keep the lawn super green.

Security creates this counter-intuitive fear reaction in some people, like the presence of security implies the need for security and exposes people to the reality that they might be in danger. When you ask people about arming some school district employees, a lot of the time their knee jerk opposition is based on just not wanting to think about the possibility of a spree shooter striking their community.

Charleston is one messed up city right now. The Walter Scott thing was awful, then this.

I have a good college buddy who lives there and from where he sees it, there is a lot of tension, even though most folks are preaching "coming together". Kind of hard to have two racially charged incidents like this and think things are going to be like normal.

I told you guys this Charleston thing (among others) has messed me up.

I legit woke up this morning thinking I was about to go into DCU and delete every racist comment made by that fuckstain and anyone else. I have no doubt this Dylan Root kid got all his hatred riled up by internet message boards... among other internet sources. I'm 35 and I thought Rhodesia was were they made the dogs before this story came out. What Zimbabwe used to be and is a rallying cry for white supremacists? Yeah didn't know that shit.

I felt compelled to erase every semblance of racism on that forum. Yeah, it was probably an overreaction... so I didn't do it. But this story is that depressing.
