Campo is still a bad example. He had success as a DB coach and helping develop guys like Woodson. He got promoted and was a DC for a Super Bowl winner. Going through the progression of promotions at least speaks to his coaching credibility. Something Wilson doesn't have.
Why are you advocating his rehire.:dunce

But yeah you summed it up very well.

I used his example of being affiliated with good and bad talent which had different results and gives an indication there may be too many variables for a criteria to judge coaches by other than player performance. Your response goes to coaches being promotable which is a different topic.
It's not a different topic. His inability to be promotable is a symptom of the problem. It's just one indicator why he sucks.

Cowboys breakout series, Part 3: This player is key to pass rush improvement

Every year there’s usually a couple of players that take their game to another level. Last season, the Cowboys received a breakout performance on defense from Tyrone Crawford and on offense from DeMarco Murray.

Up next is No. 3: Terrell McClain, DT.

A year ago at this time, McClain was fresh off signing a three-year deal with the Cowboys and turning in one of the team’s most impressive performances during organized team activities. But the former third-round pick was slowed after suffering an ankle injury during training camp.

McClain, 26, played in 13 regular season games, totaling 19 tackles, a sack and nine QB hurries, according to Pro Football Focus.

The Cowboys did not draft a defensive tackle. Entering this season, McClain is expected to be one of the team’s primary reserves at both the one-technique and three-technique tackle spots.

“Terrell has been working really hard,” Cowboys defensive tackle Tyrone Crawford said. “He’s got great speed and great hands. And that’s another guy I’m excited to see just come back and I’m excited to work with. He’s good for our D-line.”

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli views McClain as one of the “tough guys” who will help develop the younger players along the defensive line.

Last month, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones mentioned McClain while explaining why he feels confident about the pass rush improving in 2015.

“When I look at what we got out of Tyrone Crawford last year on the interior, when I look at how Terrell McClain came along,” Jones said, “when I look at the interior, then I actually think that with the personnel we’ve got competing with them and behind them, I think we got real good inside push or rush that exceeds last year.”

I did not realize he was only 26 , he still has some room for growth.

How am I advocating rehiring Campo?

Towns said Campo sucked as a DB coach I disagree, if that's what you took away well.:shrug
Your praise for his amazing coaching skills seemed to be headed in that direction. The guy sucked when we brought him back here and he's out of the league for a reason.

Clay. The whole team was bad during that period. You can't just single out one thing or individual. Everything was a mess.

Everything was a mess when he was head coach. When we brought his dumb ass back it was to a team that had gone 13-3 the previous year. He couldn't get the secondary to perform with two first round corners and a front 7 that led the league in sacks. Sometimes people who used to be good coaches don't have the ability to stay good as the league adapts and moves forward.

Cowboys’ Gavin Escobar believes he’s making strides, improving body: ‘They don’t teach you in college to eat good’

Jon Machota Email jmachota@dallasnews.com

The Cowboys tight end played in every game last season, catching nine passes for 105 yards and four touchdowns. His receptions were the same as his rookie year. His receiving yards went down but his TDs doubled.

The 24-year-old enters Year 3 in a similar situation, trying to get more targets in an offense that includes Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Terrance Williams, Cole Beasley, Lance Dunbar, etc.

“I think Escobar when he’s gotten chances in the past has always seemed to step up and finish the play, convert a third down for us,” Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said. “When we throw the ball to him down in the red zone he seems to come up with plays. So we’ve got a few guys on our team who are kind of competing for that complementary role and that’s really a good thing for our team.”

The former second-round pick saw his playing time increase in 2014. According to Pro Football Focus, he went from 207 snaps his rookie year to 263 a year ago. That doesn’t include his 20 snaps in each of Dallas’ playoff games.

“Every year I feel like I make strides, just understanding the game, being more comfortable playing in the NFL,” Escobar said. “Every year I feel like I’ve been taking steps in the right direction.”

While his pass-catching ability is obvious, the Cowboys need Escobar to improve as a blocker. Gaining weight has been a top priority since he became the third tight end drafted in 2013. He entered his rookie year at 245 pounds. He’s now hovering around 255 with hopes of reaching 260 by training camp.

And Escobar says he’s adding good weight, cutting back on the burritos he frequently ate in college.

“It’s been good,” he said. “I got a nutritionist. I have some weird nut allergies so I have to work around that. I’ve been working hard to get to 260.

“They don’t teach you in college to eat good, something I’ve kind of learned every year.”

If the Cowboys continue to have success on the ground and in the health department, Escobar’s stats might not make a significant jump in 2015.

Not knowing how many opportunities he’ll get, Escobar says his goals for the upcoming season are not based on stats.

“Every year I want to increase my role in our offense,” he said. “I have little goals that I kind of tell myself, but that’s basically my goal, just to be involved in the offense, be more productive, be a more well-rounded tight end

Its a given Campo is not HC material but he is a pretty good assistant position coach. Because he failed his stint as a head coach it primarily means he isn't a leader and organizer but it dosent necessarily mean he suddenly lost his football knowledge and skills.

That would not thrill me. He's 29 and not an upgrade. Why bother?

He's their short yardage guy because they don't have one right now. Murray wasn't a "short yardage back," but he was more than capable of getting the tough yards; not sure they have a guy capable of that right now.

Of course that begs the question of why not go swing a trade for a Doug Martin or Lamar Miller, then, but still, I'd say that's their logic.

The thing that is pissing me off about this Hardy suspension ruling is that the longer it goes without a decision, the more I wonder whether a court can order them to overturn it, then have the league drag their feet, then be ordered to comply by the court again, then have him re-instated... all by time the season starts.

Quit stalling, NFL.

Issue your fucking decision already, it's not like you needed more than 10 minutes to make up your minds to begin with.

Absolutely. They are dragging their feet for a reason. It only took a week for them to come back with their Peterson decision, yet we are looking at 3 weeks now and no decision on Hardy.

They took exactly 10 days I believe for Peterson.

This one is ending up in court IMO, so the NFL is going to drag it out. Blame Fag Goodell.

Sad to say this, but yeah, he's not any better than what we have.

About his only appeal is that he is a "short yardage" back and even that is not enough. The guy looked like crap with the Titans.

You're saying he did a good job when he was rehired here? I think you and Dave Campo must be the only people who think so.

Did he? Because his stats make him look like the only RB last year who did crap in that Titans offense. All their other RBs were below 4 YPC. I actually think he would round out a runningback by committee group here. Use him with Randle/Williams and you have at least a well rounded group.

And the 2 years prior to last season I believe Green was below 4ypc. We're setting the bar pretty low if that's our target.

What I am saying is he didn't have much to work with. And in addition, what I will repeat is how players perform is not the only criteria for judging a coaches ability. If you buy that then I will point you to the Sanders era. Does that define Campo?
